Event[0] (Game)
« on: September 16, 2016, 02:35:21 pm »
I was fiddling through popular new game releases on Steam, when I discover this gem; Event[0] which was released recently on Steam, September 15 2016 -- that's just a day ago.

The main gameplay mechanism is chatting with a chatbot named Kaizer. Depends on how you interact with Kaizer, it has multiple endings.
I don't usually see games like these. I've seen Façade, but still here's something that I'd like to share, as I was quite fascinated by the gameplay!

About the game (taken from the game's description):
Quote
Event[0] is an award-winning narrative exploration game where you must build a relationship with a lonely spaceship computer to get home. Set in a retrofuture inspired by sci-fi classics such as 2001: A Space Odyssey, the game is about forging a personal relationship with your only companion, an insecure AI entity capable of procedurally generating over two million lines of dialog. You interact with the computer, named Kaizen, by typing messages on terminals throughout the ship. The reality of your situation will emerge organically as you communicate with Kaizen and explore the mysterious ship in first-person perspective.

You’ll freely navigate evocative 3D environments brought to life with physics-based rendering and advanced lighting techniques. You’ll examine items to gather information and solve hacking puzzles as you progress. You can even leave the ship for breathtakingly scary spacewalks! All sound and music come from the environment; there is no traditional score. The ship is essentially the AI computer’s body, and reacts to Kaizen’s feelings by making different sounds—pay attention for clues!

As in any relationship, there can be gratitude, disappointment, or jealousy, and Kaizen reacts differently depending on its mood. By working through the fears and anxieties of your virtual companion, you can eventually find your way back to Earth—while unraveling the cryptic history of the ship and the 1980s society from which it emerged.
I've tested the game with a poor rig, it probably need at least a decent PC to run it (gameplay framerate can be smoothened by tuning down graphics settings), albeit it consumes a large amount of RAM, over 5+ gigabytes on low, and 7+ gigabytes on max settings.
Although I played it with only 8 gigabytes of ram, it is recommended to have more than that installed, if one wish to avoid violent stuttering (at least, for me until I've set the settings to low).

Thanks.

That was quite an impressive, immersive experience, following the trailer in Full Screen mode. Very cool. I would definitely love playing this. Aahh...$20 USD...not too bad but let's see what happens and what kind of other player comments arise.

Thanks for this tip! Looks like a really great adventure!

I took the liberty of "borrowing" their system requirements.

    Minimum:
OS: Windows 7 or higher, 64bits
        Processor: Intel i5 2.4Ghz
        Memory: 8 GB RAM
        Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 650
        Storage: 10 GB available space

    Recommended:
OS: Windows 7 or higher, 64bits
        Processor: Intel i5 2.8GHz
        Memory: 8 GB RAM
        Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 970
        DirectX: Version 11
        Storage: 10 GB available space

Good find kei10

Looks like a nice slow moving mental challenge with atmosphere.

I never buy games until I've seen some actual gameplay, so here is some.

Don't watch if you think it might spoil the game, you have been warned :)

Thanks Data!  O0

I really like the graphics of the game.

At the end they posted other games of perhaps similar nature. One that has nice graphics but not quite as immersive in my opinion, is The Turing Game...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ECgzTn12I4g

Thanks for reminding about The Turing Test, I've forgotten all about it. Time to try it out! ;D
