That cloud technology is inherent to AI.

Unfortunately, a necessary 'evil'.

No, it's not. Why would it be necessary?

Sorry Zero, I was speaking in somewhat general terms and basically referring to Businesses, although the vast majority of people are turning to and using Cloud technology, some without even knowing it.

That "Cloud" term seems for some to be some "celestial" safe place, up there somewhere, when it's actually a hard drive or series of them in some remote place/closet/basement, etc. The best one can hope for is that your personal data on these drives is actually secured/encrypted and protected by either a RAID system or other redundant Backup method.

All the big players have Cloud service and yes, some charge for that storage. Others will lure you with FREE Cloud Storage for various sizes from 5, 10, 20 MB up to 1 or more TB's.

Banks, Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Verizon, all have Cloud drives. Your gaming consoles are Cloud reliant to a large degree.

I know they are going to be more common in days to come but I don't have to like it. My new credit card has a chip in it and connects to a remote cloud server to process my information. Not really a big fan but the convenience for me to purchase something outweighs the task of getting out a check and writing it while holding up all those shoppers behind me. So yes, for me I use some of these Cloud services but am not totally secure with them.

That's why I said it is a Necessary Evil.

In my humble opinion and experience...

An AI needn't include cloud processing and storage. It's not necessarily part of what defines it.

I run my own personal cloud server.

If anyone wants to use it to keep all your personal information, bank details, credit card numbers/ codes, etc, I can give you access.

It's safe because it's 'in the cloud' and It's all fully encrypted... honest.

No need to explain what a cloud is, Art. I teach IT for a living. I see no "need" in what you say, only "convenience".

The current "everything cloud" trend, which big players want to force us in, just drives me mad. I'll buy a shotgun on Amazon.

Dark day, really.

It's a stressful time of year for teachers (I know this because my wife is a teacher). Things will get better soon so don't give up.

Well Mr. Infurl Sir, do explain just how things are soon going to get better.
The world is already heading down that path that a lot of us would rather not travel, but your insight is always appreciated. O0

hakobian, why did the people you talked to think that cloud technology was inherent/necessary? Did they think that individual computers are too limited in their storage capacity and/or processing power to run an AI? Or was it something else?
