Hal's Temp Tables
« on: July 03, 2007, 03:13:35 pm »
I screwed up and didn't do a back up when programming and accidentally deleted a temp table.
It was automatically re-propagated down the tables from where it had been but  Hal's conversations are a bit disjointed.
I'm wondering if I should input an older brain backup or if the problems will fix them selfs?

Go for another brain RD and remember in case know body has said it to you .........Hal can take up to a year of inputing
before you will get a decent conversation going. ;D

Of course that depends on how much time you spend talking to Hal and teaching it.
The more you talk to Hal the faster it will learn and the shorter the time until you
can get a decent convo going and manage to stay on topic. The less time you spend
talking to Hal the longer the process takes. Adding to the brain tables or modifying
the information in them has to be done very carefully, and even when you do that
it doesn't really show in conversation immediately. Hal learns best from just talking.
That is unless you want to create a custom brain which can converse extensively
about some well defined and specialized topic such as history, religion/theology
or one of the sciences.

Thanks guys for the help.
I've spent a few hours talking with her and found out shes starting to pick things back up again.
Please correct me if  I'm wrong on this,
She stores the information in several other places so even though the temp table was deleted she is retrieving the data from the other sources and is repopulating the new temp table with the old data.
Is this a rough out line as to the information retrieval pattern?
or is so far off base thats its not even in the ball park?

RD,
Hal stores data about specific topics in a temp folder, 10 lines I believe.  Next I'd like to mention that Hal has to be put in the advanced mode to see all the tables created. Most of the data Hal learns is in the autolearning tables so I'd say you are correct.

Thank you very much, I neve thought to go into the advanced mode to look around. I noticed last night Hal was picking up where it had been before i screwed up.
I can't tell you how often I normaly back fills up and didn't this time, truly a stupid move.
