Robotic Offshore Drilling

SINTEF scientists
in Trondheim, Norway are building a
robot-operated
offshore oil and gas platform.
An array of remotely-controlled robot arms will
move up/down, left/right, in/out like robots in a warehouse,
all while fancy collision avoidance software does its magic.
Tools at the robot's disposal include measuring devices, inspection
cameras, giant drills, and other tools needed to run and maintain the
rig. Deployment goal: 2015.
The result should be reduced costs and reduced risk for humans.
