Random Robot Roundup

Want to see the Newton, the home robot of the future as envisioned in
1989? Hannes Drexl writes, "here's a promo video of the
Newton home robot". Markus Waibel sent a link
to a gizmodo
article on Sisyphus V, a robot Zen Garden sculpture. One reader sent
a link to an interesting TS-Si article that
ponders the question of whether action must precede perception in robot
learning. roschler writes,
"Here's a video that shows what happens when a Jurassic Park renegade
robot dinosaur
meets a family of Dolphins at Sea World." Paulo R. C. Barros
sent a link to his "Sci-Fi'ers",
VideoArt which includes a soundtrack "2 Lovers Robots" by Fabio Amaral.
Roland Piquepaille's latest include a story on Robin Murphy's
newest rescue robot, one on medical
nanotechnology, and a new Caltech brain-computer
interface. The Swirling Brain has been busy too, sending us link to
a face
recognition algorithm, an MSNBC story on the latest
hopping micro-robots, a Science Daily story on a walking
robot named flame, a New Scientist article on the purring,
Haptic Creature robot, and a Wire article with update on the latest
mobile war robots. Know any other robot news, gossip, or amazing
facts we should report? Send 'em our
way please.

Yeah Tyler, that Newton is smart.

But I want my "Newton" to be smart and pretty.

Kind of along this line:

;D If they could do that in 1989 how come we don't have cyborgs walking around the place now ?  It's also incredible how cheesy it was in the 80's - it seemed to reach new heights back then.  Nowerdays the cheese is cut thin but I was ready to pound the life out of Newton by about the sixth time someone asked 'Who's Newton?'

Still, very interesting stuff and worth a look, if for nothing else then just to see how a humble floppy disk drive was once a new technology and something to shout about as well as earn an on screen credit.

That was an enjoyable link you posted too Dusky, maybe some of it will be nearer to the truth one day.
