Robotic arms

Here's a guy doing some amazing stuff with some new limbs.

"Feb 10 - A new type of surgery may give amputees better control over their artificial arms, allowing them to point a finger, grasp a baseball bat or even give someone a pinch.

Jesse Sullivan, 61, demonstrates advanced, multi-degree control of the JHUAPL Proto 1 arm at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago.

Sullivan lost his arms in an electrical accident in 2001.  He was the first person to receive the targeted muscle reinnervation (TMR) procedure in 2001."

Only a matter of time before its transferred to something completly artificial.....then the birth of the modern day true cyborg will be upon us....then proper AI....sex toys....the end of the world as we know it....AAGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH...

Ahem...of course...all still sci-fi...but advancements like that will make the AI Robot appear sooner than perhaps we think.

Aside from the isolated individuals requiring a live in assistant or companion type of robot, I envision a future where we will most likely have a house similar to the one in the TV show Eureka. The house's brain was called S.A.R.A.H. and controlled heating / air, inventory of refrigerated items, could monitor weather, pay bills and act as companion and tutor for children. It would know who was home and when they arrived...basically the eyes, ears, and mind of the home.

I think I could get used to that instead of a clumsy robot bouncing off a wall of falling down a flight of stairs because it failed to notice a small toy.

The house could guide a person wishing to get directions, play a game or cook a meal.

Maybe I'll have to get busy with a S.A.R.A.H. of my own!! ;)

In the world of AI, it's the thought that counts!
