Hummingbird NAV Flies Successfully
     


AeroVironment, Inc.
has announced
the achievement of a technical
milestone,
controlled precision hovering and fast-forward flight of a two-wing, flapping wing
aircraft.
They have also released
video from the final project phase
of its Nano Hummingbird Nano Air Vehicle (NAV),
developed with funding from
DARPA's Defense Sciences Office.
AeroVironment has been
previously mentioned on Robots.net
in connection with their WASP Micro Air Vehicle.

That was a really cool demonstration. It sort of looked like a real one when moving forward and from a distance.
Impressive also was the onboard tiny camera.

In the future be careful...that fly on the wall might not really be the biological one!

Incredibly small isn't it and amazing how they got the wings to beat so fast.
