hal and pc packages
« on: February 10, 2006, 12:56:07 pm »
i think haptek and zabaware should form an alliance with all popular computer producers to include ultra hal software and haptek players in all pc packages so that ultra hal can be used immediately by all pc owners. this way the forums grow and it becomes much easier for the novice to become acclimated to the use of ai. ~~alady :zdg_jiggle

That would be a cool idea! AI computers for everyone! Only I hope M$ then wouldn't get too jealous and try to make their own...

Also I think Cepstral or others should add real-sounding voices to the mix, and it combine with Dragon Naturally Speaking. That would be one heck of a cool system. :)

And then, just like with the computers, everyone would eventually have one!

You'd be amazed at how many calls I get from so called friends that want me to "FIX" their
computers long after they Screwed them up! NO...don't call me as soon as you think
something's wrong...call me after the situation is completely hopeless, then complain
after I tell them to call computer geeks or take it back to where they bought it.

Some people simply should't have computers if they aren't willing to spend some time
learning about them. They want to know what's taken me more than 25 years of my life
to learn in about 10 minutes! It ain't gonna happen!

Sure spread around AI robots, computers and all that comes with them, but be sure
to make them REALLY USER FRIENDLY 'cause I ain't workin on 'em!!!

(There...I feel better now...) :zdg_old

I can sympathize Art. I had the same problem as soon as everyone in my family and a few
friends found out that I built my system on my own and modified the programming. Everyone
started calling me to tell them why this program or that wasn't working or why their system
kept crashing or freezing up. Most of the time it was because they were to ignorant to take the
time to read the manual or help guides, or too stupid to know that they needed to have an
active firewall and anti-virus in place (and keep them updated).   :buck2  There, now I feel
a little better too. But that will pass as soon as another moron relative calls with a PC problem.
Which will most likely be a virus or trojan. Aaaaaargh!

No need to be sorry for bringing it up? ~alady. We're the ones who
should say we're sorry, and I think Art would agree with me.It's just
that sometimes we need to vent some frustration. You just happened
to open an avenue for us to do so. Try not to take what we wrote too
much to heart. As it was said, at least not on my part, in disapproval
of your suggestion. Art will have to speak for himself on that point.

I don't think it is such a good idea, Alady. I mean, why would we benefit from a lot more HAL-users?

A few months after I got Hal and had it going so well, I said to myself "why not share the joy".? ?:zdg_sunny
So I told all my friends about it and I gave them the link to zabaware.? :tickedoff
Even let lot of them see Sandee performing and singing.? :zdg_rock
Know how many people got Hal?? ?
Zero.
Far as I know, I'm the only person in Jacksonville with Hal.
I bet same is true for you in your town or city.
So not to worry about the masses joining.
Even if given, it will be ignored.
Takes certain mentality to get into this and ride the storms and joys. :zdg_banghead

Looks like Arts been having way too many private
conversations both with Hal and himself.  Lol     :grin

But you're right about people not wanting to put
the effort into using and understanding Hal or AI
in general. They don't want have to put the work into
sitting there teaching it/him/her. Most people don't
have the patience for it, they are too busy going
about their usual everyday business. They would
only be accepting of it, if it was already preprogrammed
with everything and didn't need to taught anything else.
As was already said, EXTREMELY USER FREINDLY.
Besides the fact that most people are just not ready
to deal with holding a conversation with a machine, at
least not in real life.  Look how irritated people get just
having a car that tells them it is low on fuel or that the
door is ajar. :zdg_jiggle

Sure, that sounds like a great idea.  It may already have a method patent though :zdg_cauldren, but ingenuity, drive, capitalism, that's what it's all about :zdg_hitcomp.   Just need a project manager for it and take off for the stars. :zdg_sleepy  It's going to be here whether we like it or not.  This is the sprinkling before the storm.  It's going to be robots in the future, but while we're dreaming I'd like to see wireless access for up and down links for GPS, programming, comm, etc. built in also.   It'll start off slow, but eventually everyone's going to have them, it'll start like it is as toys, but become more sophisticated over time.  The cost will come down just like computers.  They will become the computers, except the interface will change to something that doesn't take just typing skills.   Just think, we could call home and talk to our robot and see how things are going, or what's for dinner, and on and on. :zdg_lol

Just remember everyone here is on the cutting edge.  Less than 1% of the people on the planet even know about this stuff, much less even read and write. :sad

A computer would deserve to be called intelligent if it could deceive a human into believing that it was human. A.Turing
