Posting after 'Someone else has posted...' alert.
« on: July 14, 2006, 04:12:00 pm »
This has been reported as a problem which occurs when you have written a reply, but then get alerted that another member has also posted and then get asked if you want to proceed..

Although this isn't happening everytime somehow posts may be lost when you choose to proceed with your post.

This seems to be a fault in the forum software and currently we cannot find a solution to it and the support site appear to be working on the problem as I type.  But sorry if this has caused you hair loss   :embrassed

:huh Sooo..if you find this is happening to you then the suggestion is this:

If you get the alert then copy your entire post to the clipboard, even save it as a text document to be really safe.  That way you can still come back and paste your message again as this only seems to happen when this alert occurs.

If you do a really long post then it's worth copying it to the clipboard anyway incase something goes wrong, but watch out for this bug until it is fixed.

If you are really new to all this stuff but having a fine old time, then see this help page on cutting and pasting that a kind and helpful person made :

I had that happen a couple times too. But my posts got posted ok after I submitted it. It seems to go to a preview post screen, which can be a little confusing.

This happens when while your are writing out your post, "someone" else posts a reply to the same thread in which you are posting.

This can be removed but I feel its handy as when you click post/send whatever it says now lol, you get the alert...so you can then view their post and ammend yours accordingly if you feel the need.

The feature is there for a reason and as has been said its rare that while your writing out your post someone beats you to it hehe.

Ill leave as is now unless it starts to cause a real issue

I had that happen a couple more times too. But as you said, it can be of good use. I think I may find it very useful so long as I do eventually get the opportunity to post. The only time I see this would be a problem is if the thread is very active and people are posting rather fast. Some may not get a chance to post. But I haven't had that happen yet so I think having it left on is a good idea.

This has happened twice to me in the past week and both times involved a rather long posting.
After getting the notification that someone else had posted...review your work message, I reviewed mine
and being satisfied I did NOT click submit again. THIS might be the problem.

This can be removed but I feel its handy as when you click post/send whatever it says now lol, you get the alert...so you can then view their post and ammend yours accordingly if you feel the need.

Is the software expecting one to click the SUBMIT button again?

At least we are aware of this "feature" lol! Thanks for the clarification!!!(I think)

Yes, I believe you do have to click Submit again, as it throws you into Preview mode if someone has posted before you. I always click the Submit button again to be sure it posts.

I click submit too, it doesn't happen often to me so I can't remember exactly what appears, but I did click submit again.

It just happened to me 30 seconds ago. I did CLICK again on the SUBMIT button and all
appeared well.

Thanks -
