Robert at Zabaware has commissioned some comic strips to promote Hal and I got the kind offer of being allowed to post them here. I like them, hope others do too :)

#11 Minimum Wage Work

Quote
Panera Bread is going to replace many of their workers in the US with touchscreen kiosks and robots by 2016. McDonalds has already rolled out 7000 kiosks across Europe where minimum wages are much higher. Other chains are likely to follow.

It's good to see a comic address this issue. I've seen half the employees at Mac's replaced with computers that no-one likes to use. Employees are actually instructed to encourage the customers to use the computer. The thing that's wrong with this is that this faster cheaper technology is not benefitting the people. Despite obvious decreases in costs, prices of burgers have only been raised, and the fired employees, who did in fact buy their own meals at Mac's, no longer have the money to buy them. The problem isn't that computers are relieving us of our jobs, it's that we are all still expected to have fulltime jobs despite it.

Interesting but take a look at a local sushi bar and see how it's changed. Not that I'd ever eat that but some obviously do enjoy it.
Point is, cost cutting / saving and automation go hand in hand no matter what industry is involved.
