A heads-up about this:
Anti-Vir says the .exe for this download contains the virus W32/Zmist.

KT,

With all due respect, I just ran an updated Norton Antivirus and Ewido scans on the entire extracted directory(s) and both turned up clean.

It could be that your anti-vir was showing a false positive which is not uncommon for scans of some .exe file types.

I've read through the author's site and thought it interesting and far too involved for the intention of having a covert virus.

Which program version did you use to scan the directory(s)?

I'm using Avira's AntiVir PE. It's an automatic scan. I tried unzipping the original file twice more, with the same result, and downloaded it again, again with the same result. I don't have a clue as to the relative efficacy of one program compared to another. Just reporting what I found.

You're right that it does seem rather elaborate for a deliberate virus delivery system. And interesting, too. I hate to tell my antivirus program to ignore it, though. Next time it might not be a false positive.

I agree, KT. Those virii are a slippery bunch of cretins as are their creators!!

After going to Symantec's site and searching, I could find no reference to a
w32/Zmist virus. I then went to the Gladiator forum where professional
virus and trojan hunters love to tackle stuff like this. Again, nothing found.

I ran a manual scan on just the extracted files after isolating them and the
report came back clean of virus, trojan, malware, spyware.

Still, it doesn't hurt to keep one's guard up because all it takes is one nasty
beastie to ruin your day, and your system!

Ever vigilant!!

Even though I have no interest in the program right now, I downloaded it and scanned it with AVG virus scanner (The free version from Grisoft). First I scanned the zip file and no virus found. Then I unzipped it and scanned the directory - no viruses found.

Looks to be relatively safe. But if I ever got a virus warning, even if it was false, I sure wouldn't attempt to use it anyway, just to be safe.

Thanks FD,

It's always good to get another opinion...especially on something as serious as a potential disaster!
