Cool! :) I can't wait to give it a whirl.

I'll take the confetti but I'll have Ginger Ale instead. I don't drink. ;)

I tried installing both versions but came up with installation errors.

The error report is quite lengthy so I won't post it unless you want it.

I'm using Windows 2000 Pro with .Net 2 framework and 5.1 SDK, so maybe it will only work on XP.

Is this the Visual Basic Express installer ?

By the way, thanks for linking to www.digitalgirl.co.uk :) , we're on a new address now though www.aidreams.co.uk, theres no redirection from the old addy so it would be great if you could link to us again with the new one.

Yeah, he's using the Visual Basic Express installer. I don't know if that makes a difference if it would run on Windows 2KPro. I have XP Pro SP2 and develop .NET 2.0 applications on in.

Avi - great site BTW! :) I downloaded Nick 2.0 and will give it a try as soon as I can find time. Right now work has me busy and I'm stuck on something that isn't working, pushing me farther and farther behind in my scheduled deadline. :(

Thanks fuzzie for the kudos on the site.. i accidentally deleted the html file from the other site, but it wasn't such a good site to begin with.

The installer is not visual basic specific (or Visual studio express, being i'm using 2005 pro) - it is called "ClickOnce" installation built in with visual studio, i guess designed for applications built for use on corporate servers, where a quick, direct installation is more suited than the elaborate installers for commercial products. i did try the installshield visual studio plugin, but never took the time to figure out the lengthy proceure of building an installer with that.

As for win 2000... i hear that .net applications are backwards compatible all the way back to windows 98.
Windows 98 still uses the FAT32 file system, i believe, while 2000 is NTFS. Still, Nick 1.x had some problems with operating systems below XP, i believe someone tried it on windows ME, (FAT32) and it did not work. As far as windows vista is concerned, it installs and works, all accept for the speech and visual functions, all which use API's that are uncompatible with vista, which leaves me to assume when vista compatible versions of these APIs are released, those issues will be resolvable.

Admin, please Email me the error message. my email address is colonel720@yahoo.com
I will look at it, and see if I can figure out what's wrong.

Hmm, I can't send the error report afterall, there is no method to copy the contents of the error report, it only allows sending it to Microsoft. The error report is many many pages long and I can't even resize the window it gets displayed in which is too small to do a screen shot.

I've used this installer myself, can't say I am a great fan of it, I don't like the way it doesn't install to the program directories either, or like you say, the lengthy time probably involved in using another 'standard' installer.

I think I will just install XP on this PC and see how I get on.
