So very realistic that one almost feels compassion for her.

Agreed - amazing  8)

I wonder how long it will take for this to become real time.

I looked at the bottom of the video then entered it and found:

http://3lateral.com/projects/synchronicity/

The entire site contains many gems of animation and character creation!
Quite nicely done, IMHO!

That would be http://3lateral.com/

Took a 3D animation course in college, which suggested that hair was the real challenge.  Dinosaurs, androids, robots,  spacecrafts, humans wearing space helmets... All look amazing in 3D, but they also all lack hair... Perhaps by design?  3D Hair may still be the specialty in 3D animation worth keeping an eye on.

Just making an observation, that this studio addresses the topic of 3D hair on their website using a series of still images for a full head of 3D hair, yet for their final animation they chose to go with a crew cut hairstyle.  But overall, these comments are intended to be about the industry, not about one 3D studio.

Yep I thought that too about the hair. Nearly all demos are bald...

I checked the link and watched the crew cut vid, actually felt it was real.  To me the interesting part is The definition of sanity requires us to be able to tell the difference between what is real and what is not real and we have had to change the definition of sanity.  Perhaps we have found a way to drive our self crazy and it would seem the closer we come to making this illusion seem real the more enjoyable it is.  This seems to be the opposite of people that choose a chatbot to be a machine because the person using the chatbot does not want to be tricked into thinking it is a person.

Same may be said with android technology which is becoming increasingly realistic.

Yeah, and who want's a love doll filled with air and comes with a pump and repair kit and a cheap wig!
Not that I would know anything about them, of course, only what I've seen in pictures. Ahem!
(next they'll be chatting)...
