Hello Everyone
« on: October 23, 2009, 03:21:02 am »

Hi,

My name is Matt and I have been writing software for most of my life. In recent years I have been intensely studying neuroscience, and working on my AI software, while doing consulting. I am currently developing an application based on my own architecture to do what the Blue Gene (Brain) Project is doing, but on a high end desktop alone. I am also working on neural topolgy design software to aid in designing complex neural architectures.

I must admit, through my travels it has become aparent that good "outside of the box" AI thinkers are hard to find, so please don't take any arogance I show personlly on these forums. I just find most current AI & machine learning methods to be a waste of time. I have joined this forum in the ongoing hope that I come across new age developers/philosophers whom I could possibly work with.

Hello Matt_,
Behind every Philosopher is another Philosopher telling him he is wrong.  ;)

I am familiar with the  'Blue Brain Project' and also the 'Blue Gene' computers (Series 'P' If I remember right.)

I have a lot of info marked but haven't come across anybody interested.
Please don't get me wrong, I am not a person with software writing skills, just know my way around.

Q: Have you given any thought about emergent neural networks as a result of enough connectivity?

Matt_,
I still can't access the articles I want but this thread has a couple of links that I put up that I received from a correspondence from John Arthur, (I think he is in the rendering of the graphics)

Hello Matt_,
Welcome on the forum. I'm just new here myself.  You could say I have been  doing some out of the box thinking on neural networks, take a look at my site: janbogaerts.name

Hello, Matt. Welcome.  :)

Your project sounds interesting. Maybe you'd be interested in researching and using distributed computing too.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Distributed_computing

I fear that there isn't much we will agree about. I personally share John McCarthy's opinion that computers of 30 years ago were fast enough if only we knew how to program them. Yes, I take an engineering approach to a.i. However, before you judge my research and work based on what I name it alone, maybe you'd like to take a look at some of my postings. Maybe I've solved some of the problems that older engineering approaches had. I think symbol grounding and software reflexivity will help.

Regardless, best of luck to you and your project. I'm looking forward to your future involvement with this community.
