Hello everyone! (Kard and Artemis bot)
« on: August 26, 2009, 03:06:15 pm »
Hi everyone!  I'm new to the forum, so I suppose I have to introduce myself...  I come from Greece, I'm a telecommunications engineering student, and I'm interested in chatbots and AI in general.

My chatbot is called Artemis, a desktop downloadable bot written in Visual Basic, which I have been working on since 2006 (although I usually don't have much time to work on it :P).  You can find it and download it here: http://users.auth.gr/~dkaras/  It has a number of features related to chatting, but the interface is a simple text box.  I'm planning to make some improvements in this area sometime.  Any feedback and suggestions are welcome! :)

Hello Kard and welcome to AiDreams :)

Well done for doing so well in the Chatterbox Challenge - Bruce Wilcox, the maker of Suzette also visits here too so maybe you can swap some ideas.   I will find some time to try out your chatbot, I know a few other people will too !

Welcome to the forum, Kard.

Question:  Is there a way for us to add knowledge to our private Artemis?

Unfortunately not yet, Artemis isn't a learning bot.  But this is definitely something to be considered in future versions.

Kard, was your old URL for Artemis :

http://www.zendurl.com/chatbot/

???

I was checking to see if we had you in the Chatterbot Collection and that's basically all I found.  If this is you then I will update the entry with the new URL and provide a description, unless you want to get creative and post me a description.  Up to you.  Thanks.

Yes, this used to be the URL for Artemis, but I have switched hosts and this one isn't valid anymore.  The link at the first post is the only valid one.  What kind of description is needed (number of words etc.)?

It's up to you really Kard, I don't put any restrictions on the wordage.  There are a lot of chat bots there so I would try to sell your bot as best you can.  Just give a run down of features and things like that and maybe what makes it different.

Mentioning the Chatterbox Challenge achievements would be nice too.

OK, I'll give it a shot...

---------------

The bot is named after Artemis, the goddess of hunting in ancient Greek mythology.

Artemis is a standalone, desktop chatbot written in Visual Basic.  Downloading and running the program is very easy, since it has a very small filesize, no installation is required, and has a very simple and easy-to-use interface.

Her function is based on pattern recognition. She has various trivia knowledge and chatting capabilities, such as the knowledge of 193 country capitals, to compare the sizes of various objects, the ability to recognize many types of questions, to perform simple mathematical calculations and counting, and much more.  She can also play three games: hangman, guess-the-number and rock-paper-scissors.

Artemis has participated in the annual chatbot contest, the Chatterbox Challenge, 3 times.  She has achieved the following:
-> 2007: 8th place overall, 2nd Most Popular Bot
-> 2008: 5th place overall, 5th Most Popular Bot
-> 2009: 2nd Best Overall Bot (Silver Medal), 1st Most Popular Bot (Gold Medal)

---------------

On Artemis' Chatterbox Challenge profile (http://www.chatterboxchallenge.com/bot_info.php?CBot=2) I have an avatar that can be used, just in case it's needed.

That's perfect :)

I'll get that on the site in a short while and thanks I do like to have an image if possible - I think it helps with people recognising things instead of just all text.  Plus it's appealing..
