Not sure what software they use for those sites but the closest your probably going to get (possibly even better depending on your talent) is with Poser (for ease of use even though it can have a steep learning curve associated with it).

http://shop.smithmicro.com/v2.0-img/operations/smicro/site/511179_poser7/poseruk.html

Lots of products (ie: different characters/outfits/scenery etc)

http://www.renderosity.com

If you want to try your hand at actual 3D moddeling yourself, the big one is probably 3DS Max, though ZBrush is very very good (and comparativly cheap compared to 3DS), and Blender is free so maybe worthwhile downloading that and playing with it to get the basics understood.

Thats why suggested Poser as a starter. Even though you can still be learning after years of using it, at least all models (female etc) and clothes/props are pre modelled for you, you just have to get them into the scene.

Lots of tutorials over at renderosity for poser, blender site has its own tutes.

And if interested, some links to some of my stuff I've done with poser for you :)

Hope that gives you some brief idea of the possibilities, any questions feel free to post back into this topic or pm me :)

And on a last note, please don't write all in caps, considered internet shouting :) Welcome to the forum and hope we can be of some small help.

No problem at all, if you go to the gallery here, there 2 actual desktop images there you might like also.

Let us know how you get on :)

Mav,

Now we see and understand why the DG story is yet to be continued.
It's easy to get lost creating those great images. I too was a former
(and sometimes still) Poser, Bryce, 3DS, Rhino, addict!!

Nice work and I think the girl with the bats in the background is a
great one for a Halloween theme. (Of course that IS what you had in mind).

Consider yourself forgiven for delaying the DG story!! ;)

Hehe sorry Art can't blame Poser...well I can in a way...all those pics old now....but have been doing hundreds of pics for new site/business but those wont be on display anywhere....hard to explain. As per my PM I sent you, thats the reason no continuation yet, but I think I can safely say there will be more posted before christmas :)
