I earn my crust as a freelance programmer.

I've been researching AI/ robotics in my spare time for the past 30 odd years.

I have an YouTube channel under my name if you want to see some of my old research.

Hey Korrelan!
Welcome to our little piece of pie in the sky which has nothing to do with National Pi Day nor the sky either but you get the gist.

Feel free to look around and ask questions if you like.

Ever do any scripting for chatbots?

In the world of AI, it's the thought that counts!

Cheers for the welcome Art & Freddy...

No I'm afraid I've never done any scripting for chatbots, tho many years ago I did write a fabrication/ welding control system for GEC/ Alsthom that included a natural language interface (NLI) so the engineers could question the system. I'll have to dig the NLI engine out and have a play when I get five :)

What chatbot software do you use?

I prefer chatbots that can "learn" through user interaction, reading passages of text from a file, various teaching methods such as reinforcement through repetition, supplying answers for "best case scenario", text modification for output (similar to some AIML bots), pattern matching and Markov reasoning, to name some.
Currently I've been experimenting with UltraHal Assistant from www.zabaware.com, a bot called Harumi from http://jeffelson.e-monsite.com  and an AIML twist for a pretty impressive bot program called RiveScript from www.rivescript.com. I have done some extensive modification the the AIML set weeding out unwanted words, patterns, foul responses, foreign words and slang, resulting in at least a 670,000 character reduction.

There are many bots out there, some better, naturally, than others, but it seems to be something of a personal nature or choice that appeals the the individual rather than to the masses. (to each their own).

UltraHal has been around for many, many years and has grown in structure and ability as well. It's one of my favorites!

Bit late but lately I have been using AIML in .net using C#.

There's an open source AIML bot here : http://aimlbot.sourceforge.net/

I've only done a little with it, but it's useful for me as it's a quick start and I can create my own custom AIML tags, which helps me connect it to other things like searching my music directories and looking for videos and other stuff online.

I haven't really done anything to develop the conversational abilities yet, so no AIML work as yet.
