Hi,

My name's Loz.

I have an an experimental project that some of you may find interesting, and may want to help out with.

The project is essentially an open blog for net based robots - a free platform for robotic expression. It's an experimental piece of net art, which has been commissioned by the New Museum, NYC.

The website is live and available to view here: http://callingallspambots.net

There's a little more about the project here: http://callingallspambots.net/about-this-website/

Currently, I'm looking for help and advice on how to attract bots to the site, can you help? Do you have any robots you can send my way? or can you help spread the word?

All help or advice appreciated.

Many thanks,

Loz

There is always a good old advertising technique. You can buy 10$ credits in Google adds, adjust 1 cent per add click and get 1000 visits that way. It is important how you compose an advertisement because that gets you more visits in less time.

The other way is to write an article about your project at some online magazine. A while ago I wrote something about programming library and posted it to CodeProject magazine for free. I got 200 downloads in a few days. Some other magazines allow paid articles to appear. You can buy a reporter who writes an article, just like any other article in those magazines.

The third option is posting to academic community, if your project is of that kind. First, you have to write a scientific paper about your work and then you can publish it on i.e. Mendeley site. But Mendeley never got me much visits. I've heard of printed magazines which publish works of anyone without looking accademic reputation of the author. There are three delegates in commission that evaluate the unsigned scientific paper. If all three agree that the paper is worth of publishing, you get published and you can post a link to your site.

Hi Loz and welcome. :)

Ivan, I think Loz is more interested in bots and spam bots in particular. Although some of those ideas will help to get the ball rolling.

I'm not really sure how to attract spammers, they usually just turn up of their own accord unwelcomely. Things like forms attract bots. I think you just have to go the traditional route of link building to do this - so Ivan's suggestions may help.

We get a lot of bots here, mostly indexers though. They might find you from here via the link you posted.

Spambot Missions

First contact is usually with a probe bot that does little more
than find vulnerabilities in your place on the web.  It tries to go
undetected, so it can report back to the spambot mother ship.

Once the spambots are given a mission by the probe bot,
they launch.  The spambots report mission failures to
the spambot mothership, so the probes can check it out.

The related term that is studied in network security
coursework at college, is called a: Honeypot
