I'm interested in connecting a brain (of some sort) to a home-built robot and see if I can teach it to help me around the house. Not trying for Rosie from the Jetsons but I do need some help with hearing, since I am nearly deaf. I also need help if my back goes out and I need to call for help.

I was lead here by research on hologenicman's brain. I'm pretty new to neural nets, chatbots, etc. So I'm scouring the various forums learning all kinds of new things to keep me going now that I'm retired.

Have you thought about not a smart robot but a smarter house / apartment? One that could tell you things like news, weather, sports, advise on the status of your bank account, pay bills, reminders for medications, birthdays, anniversaries, appointments, etc. A house that could adjust the environment / heat / cool depending on your settings and whether or not you are home. Control of lighting, alarms, door locks, garage doors, etc are all quite possible. You can probably chat with this entity if desired. You would still have total control just to ease your mind.

Something to think about as there are many sources for handing / delivering the above abilities. Search for Home Automation, Home Control, Smart Home(s), etc., and you'll be surprised.

Current devices seem to be, but not limited to, X-10, ZWave, Insteon, Zigbee, Control4 and a ton of software sources like Homeseer, HAL, Open Source Automation and many others.

Worth some thought and perhaps a bit of investigation.
