I'm Dan and I got interested in HAL from buying Textaloud which read text and also created MP3's, then I bought some of the nicer AT&T voices, so I could listen to more realistic voices.  Then of course people putty entered the picture which I thought was just a toy until I started getting into it more.  Then I started using AV Voice Changer Software from audio4fun to change the sound of the voices to better match the characters.  I think HAL is great, I've been working on the conversations and I'm amazed at how it's developed.  I've learned so much in the last few months, and started working with the full bodies.  I wish I had the money to buy the whole Haptek character development software, but alas...  I thought I'd try to put them on a web site with geocities since it's free, but it wouldn't upload the files with extensions (I guess virus protection cautions), maybe if I convince them...   Well, I'm having way too much fun posing the fullbodies and working with the art, but it takes me a long time and I don't have the time to dedicate to getting all those desires met, but I've really appreaciated all the work that so many have done before me, developing so many outfits and coding the scripts.  I've spent hours reading the haps to see how they work, and even discovered a HeadForward which is a bit like NeckForward, but I haven't figured out how to make the binary haps or even more the htrs.  I tried using 3dsmax for the wireframes, but couldn't associate them with Hapteks, maybe if I keep trial and erroring through it I'll hit on something.  Here's the one I've been working on lately, I just used previous artworks and went from there, I give her a deeper british accent, but it's still a work in progress.  (sorry about the wrong light angle)

Hi Dan and welcome. You might find problems uploading to some places as the .hap and .htr extensions for the files are unlikely to be amongst the ones they allow - unless you can change the settings yourself.  We had to manually add any odd file types to this forum for example so people can upload and download.

To make HTR's you need the converter software from Haptek, which I think is one of the more affordable ones for us mere mortals.  Arakus can probably give you some advice on that if you want to post a question. You're right of course it takes a lot of time to work much of this stuff out, but between here and Zaba there's a lot of people who can help out.

Very nice character   8)

Nice idea about changing the voices btw, does that work in realtime or do you make recorded sound files?

She looks hot, Dan. I like it. And don't forget that a lot of Haptek files are specially encypted.

Sure Freddy, it works well in real time with HAL's voice,  I could also make recordings for web pages using it also.   I like to record voices and put them on my phone as well.
