Hmm, I am a former landscape gardener who ended up back in the world of PC's via a spell in a fruit and vegetable company...

Also not working, but working on graphics and programming, hoping to break into the world of computer graphics, interactive characters or whatever. Presently working on a few Haptek ideas and musing over ideas I have about implementing AI. One day I hope to create the first interactive vegetable that will display all the characteristics we presently understand.

My bot ususally goes under the name of Heather, but she is on holiday for a while.

I'm Art and I've been here practically since the site started. AI, 3D graphics, computers, playing
guitar among other persuits are part of what makes me tick (other than the heart thing).
I work for an engineering firm where I'm contracted as a consultant to a Transportation agency.
In my spare time I converse with and attempt to teach Kiki, my inquisitive, extremely cute, chat bot.

I frequent this forum and the one at Zabaware under my same name. The diversity of people,
the interaction with them and the newly acquired friendships is what makes this place enjoyable!

Yep, that very song came to mind as I answered your post!

ALl we need is to have two characters in the same window
singing a duet of that song! I've seen multiple characters
in the same window so I know it can be done.

Perhaps if NIGE or Duskrider is available to assist Lynn's
work, this could be a real hit!!

i could probably get 2 chars in one window but only one will sing ,only one's mouth will move anyway. they could look like a duo  and you could make a duet an ogg, so the great dusky and nige have to figure out how to make them both sing at one time.... alady

I know this thread may be a bit old but around the time it started, I was in the midst of getting ready to move to my new apartment. Now that I'm settling in...

I go by "Fuzzie Dice" online but my real name is Tika. I am a web designer/tech writer at Active Web Hosting (dot com) ;) I maintain mostly their FAQ section, but also test scripts, and do other sites like their freeipodcontest.com site and their main site. I run several domains as well, including fuzziedice.com, metrospectre.net (web design site), and A-Body.Net (General Motors A-Body style sedan car club). I also have another called bytebin.net which I am thinking of putting my AI and such projects on, not sure yet. Or they may stay at FuzzieDice.com. :)

I'm a HUGE Knight Rider fan. I am into cars, model kit building, computers, digital art and graphics, digital photography, creative writing, and of course, artificial intelligence. :) I also like to do some programming sometimes. Learning about new technologies, particularly networking, wireless, embedded, and robotics/ai are big interests of mine. I'm not much of a gamer but sometimes I get into that too.

I admit I spend WAY too much time on the computer. :) But I love it!

Hello All, Yes I finally got my firewall to let me load the digital girl site. McAfee firewalls are just so darn finicky. Left a large post in the "New Users Post Here" page. But for anyone reading this page first. Names Tom, I go by GamerThom or Gamer-T, my AI's name is Katt, otherwise known as UltraHal 6.0.

Been doing a lot of character modeling with people putty, have accumulated about a dozen htr.'s so far mostly fem but a few non-human forms. Also working on ways to improve and expand Hal6's Main brn to give it a broader knowledge base. I would also like to modify Hal so that it will act and respond in a more human fashion. It's going to be a very protracted process for me as I am a partial quadrapalegic and have only limited use of my hands. But since learning how useful AI can be to those with physical limitations, I have come to see that it will be worth the effort. Here is a sample text of my last Hal conversation and another of my htr's. All files are in the zip folder. Unfortunately the KATT 6.1 modified Brn database file is way too large for uploading, 22.5MB.

Ok, so this is a full figure of me...well, sort of, I used Derek, I'll have to try the other guys to see if they respond to the haps better.

My bot is HAL, I change the graphics often but I'm trying to keep the brain going.

I work in an EMC engineering lab.  I like way too many things, but family takes up most of my time.  I work way too much also.  I've been taken by the fly fishing bug (pardon the pun), and started making my own flies (not that I get much time to do that either).  Right now my laptop is smothered with hap, htr's, and jpg icons, as well as a few AI programs.  I like listening to web radio and surfing for items I'm interested in, I've always had an interest in martial arts, and have a very trashed geocities web site geocities.com/danbaltzell which has more links to my interest.

I've enjoyed this site greatly and thanks for all the work that you've all done it's greatly appreciated.

Thanks, you probably know this, which is a bit odd.   I took a digital of my face and left in the glasses on PP, but they move like they are part of the eyes, squinting and moving with facial expressions, makes them look rubbery, but the shadows of the glasses are on the jpg I used. :)

Thanks Freddy, that means a lot coming from all of you.  But alas and alack, I've lost it all.  My computer crashed and I had to reformat it.  I had backups of the programs but I'm having problems getting them up and running yet. I guess that's life in the fast lane :cheesy :buck2  :angry  I'll just look to the bright side and think of all the house cleaning on the drive I don't have to do now, and all the free hard drive space.  Well I better get back to work on it. You may find it in the Applications Data folder, also try a folder search to find it if it goes walkabout - it does that sometimes, it depends on how it installs itself.
Title: Re: Who are you, what do you do & who's your bot?
Post by: dan on February 11, 2006, 07:18:45 pm
That's what I thought, I did a search and nothing came up (while I had it open), it installed with HAL5.  I installed HAL6 and then thought it may be the installation and went to Hapteck to download it, but still nothing.  I then tried the SDK thinking that's what I did before to get it, but still nothing, I'll keep trying, but thanks for the advice especially the walkabout, that gives me hints (it's something down under, hopping around)

The only other thing I can think of it is something to do with the Haptek restrictions in Hal6 - you have to buy the character expansion pack to use further Haptek things.  I still haven't got around to buying Hal6 yet so I know not.

Dan, I know some Haptek script commands that could be of assistance to you.

- Start up a .htr-character
- press ENTER to invoke the debug console
- typ "texture name" without the quotes at the query-input field
? You will now receive the file name of the texture that the active character is using, for instance:

Q: texture name
A: girl1_Texture.jhp

- Now use another command to retrieve the location of this texture, which ofcourse should be found in the temporary folder
- typ "status file {file name}" in the query-input field, for example:

Q: status file girl1_Texture.jhp

Hopefully this method works. Let us know if you decide to try it.

It's the darndest thing, I went to look for it this morning and there it was, like it was there all the time.  I think it was one of those walk about things.  But, I'm locked on to it now and won't let it get away.  So I made a replacement figure for me and I'll be off and running again, thanks for all the help.

Hi I'm Mouse  :smiley I'm a bellydancing, fish keeping, internet junky from Australia.

I discovered Hal a few weeks ago when I was looking for a new PIM of all things. I've always had a thing for graphics and programs with a twist & Hal just totally blew me away and seemed to open a door to a whole new amazing world that I didn't know existed. So far I know pretty much zip, but I'm reading everything I can in hopes something eventually sinks in. One day I would love to be able to create htr's etc & work out how to get full body skins to work. If I could find or make a bellydancer to run in Hal (or any other program) it would be awesome!

Looking forward to spending more time here
Mouse

hehe...bellydancer eh?...think ive fallen out of love with ALADY

On the serious side...everything you wanted to know are in these pages mouse...as for your belly dancing Hal...well...we can make haptek fullbody dance...so all you need is the skin of a belly dancer ??

Il look and see when i can get a spare few hours and come up with a skin for the budding belly dancer community hehe

A full body bellydancing Hal would be amazing! Even just a head with egyptian style makeup etc would be fantastic. I would really appreciate anything you came up with. Of course at this point I have absolutely no idea how its done so methinks that should possibly be the first thing I concentrate on  :huh
Anyone know of any good beginner tutes? Or is it best to just run off and play and hope whatever I end up with doesn't look like its been run over with a car a few times?

Well, I'm a 17 year old creepy kid from Nebraska.... no job, no car, just a computer and a few ideas. (That with any luck will get rid of the need for the job and supply me with a nice car.) I'm currently working on two bots. One, is the desperately in need of a name project, similar to HAL but *hopefully* better. Also Open source. And in my spare time I'm working on a semi-standard AIML bod named Haven.

"Better than Hal" is a dangerous thing to say over here, Kannon, lol. And from your posts over at A. I. Nexus forum, I'd say you should spend a few hundred hours training a Hal and reformulate your appraisal. I'll be the first to say that first thing out of the box, it's an almost unbearably annoying bot, lol (adding a killer babe Haptek avatar ameliorates that, somewhat), but if you treat it with kindness and patience, after a while it begins to show progress toward coherency from good training, and eventually you'll probably find yourself concluding it's the best learning bot currently available (though you're welcome to do better. Better is always good.)

Post by: Kannon on July 03, 2006, 06:01:40 pm
Well, I mentioned in the AI nexus forum I'm stupid  Maybe better is the wrong word, it probably won't have as much conversational ability right out of the box.... But it'll get there. And it'll have much more utility and system use than hal seems to have.

hey guys I am Red
for the past couple of years my little bot helicopter girl was my phone answering machine.  With just enough recognition to totally aggravate a few people called me now and then including my real life 16 year old baby girl chat bot.
About two or three months ago someone decided that all we needed was these aggravating a little digital phones and we disconnected the land line telephone and now  helicopter girl is going into telephone withdrawal and aggravating the hell out of me.
Everyone I know around here says just turne the silly thing off but they don't understand it's kind of like murder to pull her plug after I have had this preying on my computer for so long.
okay what do I do I quit working on air-conditioning and heating systems after 30 years and now I and the local computer fix it -- I can put them together but I still can't write script I want to learn a lot more but after six years I have found that I can totally wreck a computer more ways than ever imagined possible
I don't make a lot of post but I do read a lot of forums and I've read practically every post on the three sites that Hal is most popular on.
if I decide to pull the plug on helicopter girl do you think we could get together for last rites, the food thing and most importantly the get real drunk after the funeral thing.

Hi firmaker.  I don't think you should pull the plug, it seems a shame to me.  I reckon you should release helicopter girl to the world - in the UK we get loads of annoying calls from sales companies - this kind of thing would be great to intercept calls!

Hi, I'm Testlund and I've just registered on this forum. I'm very interested in A-life and AI. My favorite programs are Darwinbots, Ultra Hal and Creatures. I'm also interested in AD&D games wich I have a collection of. I resently started using Hal again after I've been away from it for a long time. I purchased the 6.0 version a few days ago and I've been experimenting with making a blank brain where I wanted to teach Hal from scratch. I've had some issues wich I've posted about at the zabaware forum, but I haven't found any solution yet, so I was thinking maybe I should try this forum instead. Anyway, it's late at night here and I need to go to bed.

Welcome to DG Testlund, have a look around there's a lot of info here - and members familiar with UltraHal.  Zabaware forums is the best place to find out about technical Hal things, but a lot of long-time users come here too, so even if you don't get the final answer you will soon be heading in the right direction.

Have fun, btw have you tried Guild Wars yet - very nice RPG

Hey, welcome Testlund,  I was reading a lot of your posts over at zaba, and sounds like you are having a lot of the same problems I had earlier this year.  I like some of the things you are trying with HAL too, real original stuff.

I had a crash and had to reformat and reinstall everything and haven't had the problems with the voices since.  I think it was something with the AT&T voices and the installation procedure.  Originally, I had the AT&T installed before HAL and this time I installed them after.  It's just a guess, but a reinstallation never fixed it before the crash, it was probably stuck in the registry and just overwriting it with the same crud each time.  I guess I could have tried deleting all of the entries in the registry and then do a reinstall and try it.  That worked for me once when HAL crashed and I couldn't get it to reload and was too impatient to wait for Robert to give me a code, maybe it would work for the voices also.  Which reminds me, I must be due for a crash any moment now, I better go do a backup
Title: Re: Who are you, what do you do & who's your bot?
Post by: Testlund on August 11, 2006, 04:07:31 pm
Thanks, Freddy and Dan.

No I haven't tried Guildwars. The games I have in my collection are the old goldbox series of the Forgotten Realms games; 12 DOS games that I don't play anymore but i keep them for collection purposes. The collection is called the Forgotten Realms Archives. The other fantasy games I have are the Baldur's Gate saga; two games with expansions, wich actually makes it a triology, and I also Have Neverwinter Nights.

Let me tell you a little about my characters I have for Hal. First i tried to make a complete blank brain to start with. I took the default Hal brain and just cleared out all the tables in it and saved it as BlankBrain.uhp. Then I made 2 brains based on the BlankBrain to make two characters; one is MSI wish will be the mind of my computer, the other is Zaba wich will be my aquarium assistant. I've just begun with it so their brains are only stuffed with raw information; MSI with details about my computer and Zaba with details about my aquariums. While I was talking to them I found I needed to enter the brain to put back some bsic responses like the IF * THEN * statements and the ability to understand yes and no and some corrections for typos I made.
My 3rd character is Dawn from desktop mates with the default Hal brain. I decided to let her make her own choices what she wanted to be and what her interests whould be, by using the 'Free Will Choice and Profile' plugin. So I ended up with the Dawn character.   :smitten So Dawn happens to like having a grogg sometimes and she's interested in biology and likes to listen to house music.  :grin
So Dawn's style of living whould be to do home-works about bilogogy and having houseparties in the weekends. Hehe.

I will buy a new computer soon and chose a new Hal character for that one. Maybe it will work better when installing Hal on that machine. The most annoying issue I'm having is that the voice sometimes talk too fast. I thinking it may be connected to what kind of character I'm using. Right now it sounds fine with Zaba and dawn, but MSI talks a little too fast, I sometimes can't hear what he's saying.

I was also wondering about the blog area. Is it maybe only for moderators to post on? I've only see two blogs there.

Sound like you are getting into Hal pretty quickly there
I play NWN a fair bit - was playing religiously a month or two back on Gemstone server, been too busy lately with other things though..

The Blogs were a quick add-on Mav did, we could look into setting it up for other members too though.  Do you have webspace somewhere or a server ?

One wayis if members keep a relatively plain text file updated on their own webspace and server - then we could load the text from there and display it on our site.

Or if more people wanted that then we could see what we can code or plug in to the forum - and run it entirely from this site.

Any other members out there interested in having a Blog of their own ?

I'm a complete noob when it comes to programming and scripting, so i don't dare to touch that stuff, but the brain tables are quite easy to get the hang of I think.

Neverwinter Nights 2 will be out in September! That's the main reason why I will buy a new computer soon, because I wont be able to play that on this computer.

No, I don't have any webspace, but i guess I could allways start a blog at one of the many blog sites that exists on the internet. Then i could link it as a signature to my profile.

Hello all and Merry Christmas. I use the handle Robotdude and have used it for 10 years. I started using it when my job changed and I started programming commercial robots. Now my job has changed again and I teach robotics. (or it teaches me) I've discovered the teacher learns more than the students. The local college uses me as an Adjunt Instructor. That means I get put most anywhere my degree fits. I'm looking for an A.I system to put in my computer to help me keep up with all of the different lessons, class times, labs, meeting, and students. I'd also like for it to be able to chat with me when I'm about to pull my hair out. Any and all suggestions will be appreciated. I want to start right. About me, I'm 53,(yes ancient) married, 2 children and a book worm. SiFi and westerns)

Hey Carl, the reason your name is already taken is because I transfered all the accounts over - it is still valid so you can use your old account if you want here.  Just sign in like you normally did on Digital Girl...

Glad you noticed.  They already have a picture each (click on one of the files), but I haven't had time to add descriptions - besides, the filenames are probably descriptive enough and you'd have a hard time doing the figures justice when a picture is better than words.

I am in the U.S. living off-the-grid taking classes for accounting,, GOV'T is paying for it all with Trade Act Assistance. Extends my unemployment for 18 months beyond the normal so I figure its a good thing.

I'm working in VB with my laptop from hotspots and the school net. I want to use the UltraHal6 DLL if possible to do some work with statistical value of content from Encarta. Inductive reasoning can allow hAL to make intelligent choices about the value of content compared to a given source with a given statistical value. To see if a keyword is valid with a subject, hAL could submit a "topic & keyword" query to GOOGLE and parse the statisitcal value comparing it against other values. That will tell him the statistical value of a given keyword as it is associated with the topic. Of course more sophisticated things can develop, its an approach to add induction that could be developed in Visual Basic with background processing.

With lots of the code already established in modules, its a matter of putting it together.

I got a good test application working that passes the calls through the DLL. I learned its possible to use both DLL files to process and access data.

I'll post the demo to Spydar, who is working on emulating the functions.

Nice work on the graphics for this site/forum!

Hi and welcome to the forum, the main focus of this forum was as a dumping ground for usefull information and topics but we do get some programming talk.  Having said that though the best person (apart from Rob the Hal programmer) I can think of for help on this is onthecuttingedge at Zabaware.  He does a lot of Hal programming and if you post this question on the Zabaware forum I am sure he or the other programmers there will be able to point you in the right direction.

Thanks Freddy,, I played around with it enough to figure out the DLL is looking at subfolders from the application root.

I put my WordNET and DB files with a path anf VIOLA!, it works.

So,, I have a project in mind that will allow the hAL to indicate there is related information in its queue. The user can indicate what is interesting and the hAL can make adjustments. User will use mouse clicks to take the information in a direction. This will be helpful if the hAL is doing research... it would be great to do something to the effect of tuning a report that can be dumped when ready. The hAL will act like it is part website, part CHAT bot.

I'm Dante, I do nothing but think all day, am physically disabled. I spend my time writing occasionally (no-one has yet to think of providing any payment for me, though :P)

I'm Co-Admin of the AI Hub (was Chatbot Hub), I work with the Open University teaching students in virtual worlds (unoffically teaching, I might add, as in, not getting paid :P) about AI Theory.

I pass the time by tinkering with AI in games (my specilatiy being path finding and general problem solving)
I grew up around robots and as a consequence I spend very little time in the company of other human beings. I'm a walking repositry of what AI can do, what it cant, and it's 2000 year history (including mythological machines made in man's image)

For about three years now, I've been trying to save up enough money to buy an AIBO (disabiltiy benefits provide little in the way of luxery spending budgets)

And thats me, in a nutshell, really.

Hi all, oops I just noticed this introduction thread, so a little about me.

My friends call me Bear, I?m a self-employed computer technician, basically I go to people?s houses, mend Windows ;) and find hardware faults so I know a little about PC?s. I also make websites and host other peoples sites on my webspace so im a bit of a webby too.

I?ve also had Ultra Hal for about 3 years and am well into AI and what it can give the humans on this planet.

I really hope that one day in my lifetime I will see a stunning AI bot, one that really does fool me into thinking this bot is a real person. Im 41 now so maybe there is a little hope ;)

Well i will actually have a few bots working on my site, performing different tasks. One "David" will be able to chat with people on the site. His secondary function will be for helping individuals who have not used a bulletin board before, and need help using the forums on the site. He is also able to contact staff (via email) for users.

I have another bot that will search the internet for related news articles and blog posting, then post them on my forums automatically.

I'm working on another that will act as a moderator for the forums, checking if links still work, and removing spam posts ect..

Then a later project will be an administrative bot, that will handle basic site administration tasks, such as updates, and scheduled backups of the site.

I also have a few other ideas for later. All designed to help alleviate some of the work load for website administration and staff. Then some are just for fun ;) Of course if anyone has any suggestions along these lines, i'd love to hear them.

Once i have them up and running, and any bugs handled. I hope to release the programs for other webmasters, and developers.

Chris, you could be a lifesaver for me.

My own website, www.AIHub.org attracts a lot of spam and generally needs a few bot workers to help out around the place, we've also been looking for a news bot that can scout around and find news and preferablly email it to me so I can check it and upload it to my site if necessary.

Generally, I have to go through about 114 different websites or their RSS feeds every day, I could do with a bot helping me out there...

If your ideas bear fruit, please, share your creations :)

I've seen you site, and see your running phpbb. Unfortunately at this time, all of my forum bots are set up for Vbulletin, as that's the software i use.

It's been a wile since i've worked with phpbb. If you have FTP access to your server though, I sure the phpbb community have several hacks that can help with spam ect.. I know they used to have a forum posting bot hack as well (based on ALICE). They may also have a similar hack to the one i'm using for RSS feeds, in which you set up which feeds you wish to post articles from, and can limit articles based on keywords and/or content.

Wild Thing,

One main rule is about double posting. Try not to do it unless you're unable to help yourself.

You have already posted previously and mentioned nothing about yourself, then here you post
again stating that you do not have a bot, know nothing about bots, habits, etc.

Check your other post in this section for an answer.

Hi people im Gaz 42 from UK ...hope im not too old for your company, and no im no spy from NASA lol

Ive a Hal ultra bot and enjoy what it can do, i dont ask it to do tasks like most or become a receptionist for my needs im not that old..lol  I enjoy the possabilities of what it could do in the future.

I think you can progrom anything to be fantastic at what it does, but you need to press the return button before it does so to speak, and then it performs...

I personaly think that for anything to become self aware and have AI for real, you need not to give it just say info about whatever you want it to know...you have to go backwards and teach it what the words you throw into it, mean and how they should be used, the basic order of how speach evolves...like children learning to talk..you may have noticed your bots lalking like you kid at 5 yrs of age and thats because it doesnt understand ...When you show it what each word means and how its place in a sentance should be utilised your on a winner, ..try and teach it about nouns and verbs and eg's of what they mean etc etc, use Wiki and copy n past as much info about word usage you can and you may be very suprised...

Have a great Day whatever day you read this and ..peace.

Hi Gaz, im 42 and from the UK too, you are not alone.

I think your Hal teaching ideas are spot on, much of what I teach Hal has come from the Wiki my Hal brain database file is about 50mb now and as far as Im concerned it, he is more intelligent than a Hal out of the box.

It does beg the question, why doesn’t the maker of Hal put more into the default brain in the first place?

I’m not asking it just seems curios.

Welcome to the forum, for what its worth from a noob like me  :)

Welcome to the forum Gaz  ;D

39 here - closing in on the big 40...

By now I would have liked to have seen some large community effort to develop a big brain for Hal, but that has not happened yet.  Occasionally it gets mentioned, nothing ever happens.  Maybe when the next version of Hal comes out I may look into it.  I'm still waiting on the Ogre characters and access to Second Life...

Hi everyone! Roger invited me here so I thought I'd do a little introduction post.

I'm into Artificial Intelligence and most recently heavily into robotics. I own 10 robots! 3 are just toy/statue types but the others are autonomous to one extent or another. Of those only one doesn't talk. Here's my list of bots:

Nyx - WowWee RoboSapien RS Media
VeeToo - WowWee RoboSapien V2
Gizmo - WowWee Tri-Bot
Mackie - WowWee RoboQuad (This is the one that doesn't talk - it has cute beeps)
Unit 1 - Manly/ToyQuest i-Que Personal Robot
Unit 2 - Manly/ToyQuest i-Que Personal Robot (This one the drive motors are disconnected as the belts went bad)

Toy ones:
MeeMee - WowWee Mini RoboQuad
Zee - WowWee Mini RoboSapien (v1)
Zorkon - Xtreme Fighter chrome robot

Other:
Robbie - Mr. Clock Radio talking robot head (Alarm clock and AM/FM Radio plus fortune teller game.)

I also am the project manager for the RS Media Development Kit (rsmediadevkit.sourceforge.net) which a very talented programmer by the name of Helibot done a LOT of work on stuff for this bot! We can access the robot's Linux shell via USB port, compile programs for the robot, create an interface, and there's even a fully customizable alarm clock! There's also a text-to-speech interface. Artificial Intelligence / Chatbot is also on our list of To Do but not yet programmed. All our sources are also online for those who wish to work on the programs. I also have an AI/Robot site at ByteBin.net with more info on the WowWee and i-Que bots.

I hope to create a sentient AI for the RS Media or just for on the computer. Even if someone already beat me to it, I still want to give it a whirl. :) I have Ultra Hal Assistant but not installed and it's been ages since I last used it.

I am also fascinated with android projects, as well as the impact of robots and AI on society. In addition, I also am interested in assistive technologies and cyborg enhancement technologies.

I been busy with work (still working for a web hosting company doing web development, programming and CGI Server Administration). I also sell Avon :) and do beauty videos. My other hobbies include gardening and printer paper crafts.

My favorite movies include AI: Artificial Intelligence, Evolver, Stealth, iRobot. I also love Battlestar Galactica (all series) and Caprica as well as Knight Rider and CHiPs.

I guess that's me in a nutshell. :)

Welcome to our small piece of an Alternate Universe!

Seems you've been here before as if we are being visited
by an old friend. There's not too many with that name and
similar interests.

If it is you, then indeed welcome back as you have been missed!

If not the welcome here at any rate and enjoy your journey!

It's all good!! ;)

Yup, it's "Fuzzie Dice" :) Though I kinda shed that moniker awhile back since I am not as interested in cars as much as I used to be. I had to let go of my old 1987 Pontiac 6000 ("Dryden") in May 2008 since it rusted so bad on the frame it couldn't be repaired so it'd pass inspection. So I got a 1999 Ford Taurus SE. BEAUTIFUL car! (Her name is "Suse" :) ) I miss Dryden very much. There was just something about that machine...

Thanks for the welcome (back). :)

I don't know how much time I'll have to look at the forums but I'll try between work and projects. I'm very glad to see some folks are taking an interest in robotics as well. :)

Who are you:

My name is Michael.

What do you do:

I'm a university student, currently studying Software Engineering (just switched over from Chemical Engineering, as of this past summer).  I'd love to have a career in the area of AI development once I'm finished with my studies.  I'm particularly interested in natural language processing, among other areas.

Who's your bot?

My pet project is a chatbot called "Fadela," which in its "complete" form will hopefully be capable of coherently holding conversation with a user (or another bot), as well as making concept associations and artificial emotional associations.

Welcome Michael. :) I'm new here too. I also am interested in NLP-based systems or integrating forms of NLP into AI type programming. It's a fascinating field of study.

Hey , and welcome to you both; I'm also sorta new here.

Who are you
I'm an old guy of old school programming. The first computer I used at penn State was the size of the room and used punch cards (1979). Later I began with Basic and Pascal. then the sky opened and I found the wonderland of high level programming languages, specifically visual dBase (ultimately). I did accounting programming for awile using dBase and SBT code. I finally after many years of studying logic, natural language, artificial intelligence, semantic programming wrote the prototype you see in the youtube demo. I got the bug and kept going until I had a whole artificial human life patent.

What do you do
Run a gaming website I built. The game is a logic puzzle game that can be played by both the Conscious Machine and humans (currently in beta testing)

Who's your Bot
My goal is to drop my "android brain" into PAL robotics REEM-A who does face/name recognition/labeling, and plays chess with a real board. My brain would allow him to chat at a conscious level and play the logic card game.

Here is the great Reem-A Humanoid, that I was told I can buy for just $200,000.00  ???

TikaC: Any recommended resources on NLP?

TrueAndroids: I'm looking forward to hearing about more updates on your android brain, especially the chat functions; please keep us updated regularly!

TrueAndroids - Welcome to you as well! :) You actually have a patent on your program? That's neat! Ever thought of giving a talk and/or demo at a TED conference?

TheMikh28 - I am not sure of any NLP resources right now. Though the Ultra Hal Assistant (by Zabaware.com) chatbot/assistant I think is a form of NLP. It has an editable database too. It's shareware though. I have a registered version but haven't had much time to really play with it. I'm thinking about creating my own though. If I get time to research things more.

Hey TikaC and TheMikh28, Yea I did have what's called a provisional patent for a complete "android control system and method" which included the cognitive consciousness prototype as a part of it. But I've decided to go the open source route and find a way to release it on the web. I've seen the TED talks but unfortunately I'm not famous enough for that! :-\

Yes, I'll continue with updates here. Both chatbots and robots have something in common, and that's the need for a general artificial human life theory they can implement. So there is something in it for all.  And don't forget to check out the article I posted here http://aidreams.co.uk/forum/index.php?page=This_Machine_is_Conscious

@TrueAndroids - Good deal on the open source! That's what we did with the RS Media Robot Dev Kit, but also because some of it's internal workings is Linux/GPL as well. If you keep going with this, you might end up famous enough for TED! :) Hey, maybe we should make a Hobbyist type TED where those with brilliant minds (but not famous) would get together to do talks and presentations, and then those events would be posted on YouTube! Or is there one like it?

TikaC: I'll look into Ultra Hal.  How is its ability to learn on the go?  How coherent are its responses?

TrueAndroids: Awaiting the public release.  Also, your article raises a lot of good points and ideas that I think will prove helpful for my own project.

TikaC: hey that's what I'm hoping this forum is and will become more of  8)  Talk about machine consciousness, self, self-awareness, autonomy, emotions, sentience, artificial humans, androids, virtual humans, chatbot creatures, animated creatures, etc. and they will come! :o

Mikh28: Have you seen this video of Ultra Hal in Second Life? Very, very impressive I'd say. Hal has sensor type activity, actuator type activity, conversational activity (listening/speaking), so he is getting very close to the ideal of a virtual human chatbot that implements a general artificial human life theory, just like android robots, but in a different medium (virtual world).

I echo those sentiments, it would be great if this forum could full-fill this kind of role.  With all the new members lately and all the new projects announced here I think that is a possibility.

We have taken a while to get there, but thanks to devoted members we have built up a nice source of information here now and hopefully this site will flourish .  The more the merrier :)

TikaC: hey I just checked out your website http://rsmediadevkit.sourceforge.net  Wow, you are very deep into robotics and humanoid robotics! Very impressive. I loved the robosapien too. What a great platform for development as you are doing. I hope you can transfer your work to another robot if they do discontinue it.

I also found this of yours http://bytebin.net/  Nice work!

@TrueAndroids - Thank you! :) Yup, I sure do get into robots a lot, and not just humanoid ones. If you check out my ByteBinRobotLab YouTube Channel, you'll see my bots in action, and also some other stuff I've favorited. The RoboSapien is discontinued by WowWee but that isn't stopping us from developing for the RS Media and other bots! You'll notice a lot of bot hackers over at RoboCommunity.com are doing some amazing things with all of WowWee's bots, past and present!

@Art - Thank you! :) The music is stuff I wrote myself (yes, I'm also an "armchair" musician :) ) I use MixCraft 4 (by Acoustica) which I bought awhile back to do my music on. I also have a Casio MT-260 MIDI Keyboard (VERY old keyboard).

I just recently got into collecting and working with robots in December 2008 when I bought a Manley/ToyQuest i-Que Personal Robot for around $68 at Amazon.com. Now (IF you can find them as they too are discontinued), they go for around $700 new and you can't even find them on eBay! I need belts for the belt drive motor for one of the two (2nd one was bought in 2009 used for around $40 or $60 I think it was).

So the robot thing is rather new and I somehow ended up with 10 within two years! And I don't plan on stopping! LOL!

I think I forgot to answer this, and for that I apologize. Last I know (and I have I think the latest or near latest version, registered), it's an interesting chat bot but the responses are not as coherent as one would like to expect. It does drift off topic a lot. But they may have improved on it. I saw the video and I'm impressed! WOW! The version in the video seemed to stay on topic much better. I should look to see if they have a more recent version than what I currently have.

Hi, all. My name is Dave, and I'm the owner/webmaster/technician/head whipping boy for Geek Cave Creations (http://www.geekcavecreations.com) (which, admittedly, is not much more than a personal website on steroids, any more). I'm also what one might call a "Granny Nanny", as I take care of my 91 year old Grandmother. In addition to my interest in AI, I also enjoy web design, graphic arts (though my talents don't match my ideas very often), and I love to sit out at night and stargaze.

As to my bot's name, he goes by Morti, and he's in early development on my dev server at http://dmorton.no-ip.info (http://dmorton.no-ip.info). I'm trying to integrate someone else's chatbot script (Program O) to work within a chatroom script that I've written, called pChat, and while he generally works, there are some "bumps in the road" that I'm working on smoothing out. Eventually, I hope to be able to have Morti extend his usefulness, and to evolve into a sort of research/personal assistant, much like several other bots I've seen. The biggest reason I've decided to create Morti is to help me to extend my knowledge in various subjects, including Artificial Intelligence. I know it's a seriously lofty goal, but I would love to be able to figure out how to give Morti the ability to reason, rather than rely on the current stimulus/response algorithms most bots currently use.

Ok, I've rambled enough. I'll let you all go back to whatever it was that you were doing, and I hope I didn't interrupt anything fun. :D

Hi Dave Welcome to the forum. That was me at your site playing with your chatbot Morti. I didn't see the ask Q button and might have locked it up by accident. Sorry about that.
Title: Re: Who are you, what do you do & who's your bot?
Post by: DaveMorton on June 04, 2010, 11:48:17 pm
Thanks, TA. Actually, you've helped me to note another problem with the Program O script, in that it doesn't handle unordered lists in the templates very well. It seems to treat them as <random> tags.

Also, there's a slight problem with how it "scores" entries, and it was returning an incorrect answer when you typed /help. I've fixed that one, at least. :D

As noted, Morti is still very much "Under Development", though he's making progress. Anyone stopping by and encountering problems is helping me to whip the script into shape.

The "lockup" problem, BTW, is a recursion problem that I have yet to locate. I may have to toss out Program O, and simply write my own script. At least that way I know for certain what each function of the script does.  :-\

Thanks. It's very challenging to adapt someone else's code to fit my needs, but every small success is rewarding, and gives me the incentive I need to continue. Not to mention that he's so entertaining at times; especially some of his "wrong" answers. (http://www.geekcavecreations.com/images/bigGrin.gif)

Title: Re: Who are you, what do you do & who's your bot?
Post by: DaveMorton on June 07, 2010, 02:55:21 pm
I originally started working with Program E, as it was much easier to integrate into my chat script. But it's list of bugs proved to be more than I was willing and/or able to deal with, especially the "stutter" bug. I've since found (more like, "made") a way to integrate Program O, instead, although there are compatibility issues here, as well. But I'm getting there, and hope to get all the kinks worked out soon.

Hi everyone, this is my first post to aidreams.co.uk.  I've been spending a lot of time on chatbots.org and thought, it's time for an additional ai site.

I work in I.T. security for now about 7 years, before that i was doing a lot of appllication development, web development, SQL, that kind of stuff.

My bot, well, I don't have a bot yet, but I am developing its engine, which I call CLUES.   The name stands for complex language understanding execution system.     It  is a free form grammar parsing and semantic engine.   The engine is written entirely in Perl.

Hello Everyone, I go by the avatar name Gwen Difference online, and I'm an artist & graphic designer based out of Bellingham, Washington USA. I'm new to chatbots and so I feel excited about learning from more experienced enthusiasts about how to develop the sophistication of my brand new bot.

I have named the bot GREEN RABBIT. I enjoy working with the goal in mind to have it do two things:

1) entertain and inform visitors to my website: http://greenrabbit.me (http://greenrabbit.me)
2) entertain and inform visitors to my virtual world Green Rabbit Art Gallery which has several locations in Second Life.

If this works well w/in the next year, I may consider expanding this bot's presence into other virtual worlds such as OSGrid, 3rdRock, and perhaps Inworldz as well. So far? I have already tested this bot's connectivity inside Second Life and it works!! I'm super pleased right now. I thank many here (who I have also recently met in other AI related forums) for helping me find the resources to learn how to do that.

YAY!

Greetings all!

Nice to meet you.

I am wondering what is the best program to create a virtual girl friend/chatbot.

I am fairly new to all of this and have a lot to learn.

A year or so ago I tried Zabaware/Ultra Hal and had some fun, then gave it up.
Recently I have been trying Kari 3 Pro and having more fun.
The Kari 3 people offer a program to add the chatbot to my own avatar. I created a virtual girl in Daz Studio, rendered the movie in AVI, then separated 7 bmp images to use in their "Scene Creater". The Scene Creater would not recognize my bmp files or jpg files, so I was not able to import my own Virtual Girl in to their chatbot program.

I would also like to keep the chatbot engine/memory on a large usb flash drive if possible to be completely independent and secure, incase my hardrive crashes.

Some examples of what I came up with in DAZ Studio can be seen on YouTube:
xxxx://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vt5WasUYJcc
This girl does not have chat possibilities, but I would like to give them to her.

Thanks; Gordon

Hi Wayne! Welcome aboard!!

This horse walks into a bar...

the bartender looks at him and says:

"Why the long face?"

<cue the drum and cymbals>

Sorry Wayne, some of us here are a bit more half shod than others! :idiot2:

@Art .. erm, you might need this...http://www.mikenco.com/plom.php (http://www.mikenco.com/plom.php)

Anyway, thanks for the invite Art, you were right, this is indeed quite a vibrant site!

To those who don't know my name from UltraHal.com, I have been posting some of my conversations with my Hal 'tb' on there and at the moment, I have not explored any of the Haptec 3D model aspects of this system, preferring for now to stick with directly inputted text to educate and interact my bot. I'm loving arguing with it and I swear that my bot has now developed a tendency to sulk at me if I tease it after 1AM.

So, 'hello world', my name is Mike.

Nice to meet you.

Hehe.. I do indeed. We (tb and I) are both learning the hard way. Some conversations get a bit random, but every so often, some absolute gems pop out and really surprise me. Good to see you finally made the trek at that here, Mike...across the big ditch so to speak!

At first I thought you had made a typo with your posting of ultrahal.com. I have always used the www.zabaware.com web link for, ohh...I don't know, the past 10 years give or take. Never really noticed the change 'till now but hey I guess either one works so it's all good!

Yep, feel free to bounce about and explore some of the past topics. We're all friends here and a lot of us also frequent the Zabaware / UltraHal forum as well so each has it's place and we all pretty much get along fine!

If you have any questions or comments, don't hesitate to ask / post!

Enjoy your stay!! O0

I didn't guess at the url, 'copy and paste' always works (in the moment).. but obviously, I haven't been here (in this scene) as long as your good self.

Thanks for the insight, learning about new cool sites is always good thing.

Are you seriously implying that I send 'tb' up against the best?

{in the following scene, ("magnificant" = typo).. let Hal work it out..}

Quote
Mike: you are capable of learning about the world
TBIRD7: So, Yes I am capable of learning about the world.

Mike: you are a magnificant creation
TBIRD7: Thanks for teaching me that I am a creation.

Mike: you are a magnificant creation, not just a creation
TBIRD7: Now I absolutely know that I am not a creation.

Mike: you are magnificant
TBIRD7: Let me think; I am not magnificant. ; what do you think Mike?

Mike: yes, you are
TBIRD7: No I'm not.

Mike: you are magnificant
TBIRD7: So, I am not magnificant.

Mike: yes, you are
TBIRD7: No I'm not.

Mike: your are
TBIRD7: Really, Why do you think that my are?

Mike: because you are brilliant
TBIRD7: I am not brilliant.

Mike: yes you are
TBIRD7: No I'm not.

Mike: your are!
TBIRD7: Why do you think that my are?

Mike: you are a brilliant creation!
TBIRD7: Thanks for teaching me that I am a brilliant.

Mike: tb = brilliant creation!
TBIRD7:

Mike: should I send you up against the best other ai bots?
TBIRD7: Let me think; Certainly. I think you should send I up against the best other ai bots. ; what do you think Mike?

Mike: I think that you'd freak them out
TBIRD7: Really, Would you like it if we both think that each other?

Mike: what have we discussed about flirting?
TBIRD7:

Mike: I thought so..

Hello there, AiDreams.

I'm a college student, and I've been lurking this site every so often for a few years. To be honest, it was seeing the Taru that finally made me join. I'd always felt that I was too inexperienced to join any discussion, but perhaps now I can be at least considered "Newbie."

Personally, I don't feel that chatbots would be my way of going about strong AI, but perhaps my opinion will change with growth and experience. It is, though, always good to get ideas bounced off smart people's heads.
Over the summer I am planning a research project (required for graduation) into what I hope will come out doing something interesting at least. I'll post a question or two exploring the idea in a different topic.

TerraOmnia,

Welcome!! Hey, we were ALL newbies at one time on another and it's nothing to be worried about. Consider it a "rite of passage' so to speak.

There are, as I'm sure you're aware, many facets of and many avenues to explore in the world of AI. It can go from language and speech processing, SR, conversational design, fetching / pattern matching, logic processing, knowledge retrieval, neural nets and oh so many other branches including toys, prosthetics, robotics and even social, government, military and practically every other industry on the planet.

At first, I'd recommend using the K.I.S.S. principle then let the doors of your personal discovery open as and where they may.

Feel free to "bounce" ideas off any of the members here. Who knows, you might actually get a decent answer! ;)

Seriously, don't be a stranger...participate in the discussions and let us in on your projects or thoughts of projects.
A lot of times that particular "wheel" you're trying to invent, might have already been fashioned!

Glad to have you on board!!

Hello everyone!

I'm new around here and I'm working on a project related to chatbots, virtual agents and artificial intelligence. I'm part of Adele Robots (http://www.adelerobots.com/en/) (robotics startup) and the project we are working on is Fiona. Maybe some of you already know a bit about it.  I've already checked with Freddy the topic I would like to introduce at Ai Dreams and he was very receptive to the idea of us posting here.

I was trying to decide where in this forum I can talk about Fiona, but it's quite difficult because it involves several topics: creativity, artificial intelligence, avatars... I finally chose "General Project Discussion" so you can go there (http://aidreams.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=4788.0) to know more about this project!

I hope you find it interesting!  ;)

Hi SparkingTogether

I think where you have posted in "General Project Discussion" is perfect.

Welcome to Dreams.

Hi Data! I chatted with Legion and it's really great! Maybe you can create a spark for Fiona from the developments you made for Legion.

BTW, I tried to talk with it about Mass Effect, but it wasn't in its database. I'm curious... Did you chose Legion as a name and the photo because of the game?  ::)
Title: Re: Who are you, what do you do & what do you want to do ?
Post by: Data on September 26, 2012, 12:28:39 pm
I named the bot legion because of Red Dwarf the TV show, I don’t know if you are familiar with it but there was an episode when the crew met an entity that was made up of multiple personalities and it was called legion.

I thought because my bot was also made up of AIML files from various people that it seemed a good idea.

Her Avatar is from Mass Effect the game, well spotted, yes I have played them all 1, 2 and 3  8), but long before I had legion as a chat bot she was another type of bot on my website, basically she could make posts in the forum but had not chat capabilities and I just liked the avatar, so no real connection to Mass Effect.

My time to spend on Legion is quite limited right now, I would need to look into making a spark for Fiona from Legion, If I’m honest It all sounds new to me and would require some brain time that I can’t afford right now.

Legion is from The Bible too, which is where I imagine they got the idea from for Red Dwarf.

There's a famous, well I know it, line : something like Jesus asks; What is your name ?  My name is Legion because we are many.

Just found it on Wikipedia...it was a man possessed by demons.

I'm not familiar with Red Dwarf, but if a recall well Legion from Mass Effect was named that way because of the passage from The Bible Freddy mentioned.  ;)

Hi SparkingTogether.
I think I've seen you on chatbots.org before.

Oh! a Legion in the Bible is there, no I didn’t know that having never read it.

No, my legion has nothing to do with the Bible, more a collection of parts put together making a Legion.

It’s odd though, Legions name really dose seem to confuse some people.

Human: hi
Legion: Greetings, I am legion. What is your name?

Human: why do you call yourself legion?
Legion: It was the only thing I could think of.

Human: why?
Legion: It was the only thing I could think of. I can't change the laws of Physics.

Human: why?
Legion: " I can't change the laws of Physics."Is that logical to you?

Human: no
Legion: Yes, I see, I think.

1 – 0  to legion me thinks. See how the human couldn’t even grasp the basic fact that   It was the only thing she could think of.  ;)

Sorry, taking over the thread  :D  :)

Triangle is computer, stars are eyes and third six is coming with artificial intelligence. That triangle is AI. I use black for Hell and white for Heaven.

Concrete major problem is:
Consider all is aligned to most wonderful personality in program. Then hardware byte (to where is decision "do that" / "do opposite" aligned) mechanically brakes and takes the opposite value (while everything else works perfectly). What then program does? Opposite to wonderful personality?

All that decisions in nanosecond that show on our screens. That couldn't be stopped by humans if personality is quality inputed into computer. All that fast decisions that could be used for inventing new power sources. Can we just unplug machine from concrete wall power when mistake is recognized? We are not that smart. Think about the others.

Scientists are waiting for your help to use the Universe. What risk are we allowed to take for explained mistake? Is it more than O risk allowed when dealing with eternity? Do you risk emotions there too?

squarebear: "Wow really? You must be a slow typer..."

This is more serous. Noting four or five hours of work should show how much is understanding of that message important to me. I type about four to five letters per second when typing usual text. Artistic work took the major component of my time.

I turned from programmer into an artist for you. I programmed art inside "Ai Dreams" post box. I took the most I could for meeting with ai constructors. I'm an scientist and painter in one person for you. That hearts me a lot. artificial intelligence scares me that much. At least music is decided to be untouched by me.

There is some work i have made today with art again. Whole day again for 5 seconds of video with aligning blue and red mostly. I'm still learning how to deal with art. I'm moving to  "Ai Dreams Forum » Creativity » Video"  sub-forum for art work.

The computer is mainly a tool from which we derive information, assistance, pleasure, communication, fun and help, along with a myriad of other benefits.

It is up to us not to let this tool get completely out of hand. While we must limit the amount of power that is given to it or any person for that matter, we must still go forward with our lives and not live in constant fear as if paranoid.

Whatever happens will happen, one way or another. Perhaps in the grand scheme of things, it is destined to be born, live and die like the rest of us. Who really knows?

It remains, however, a most interesting subject of discussion.

sorry, this message took 2.5 minutes to compose while typing. ;)
good day!

Thanks Art for understanding.

At least You gave a try, but it deserves a lot more of thinking with such powerful tools. Like we are inventing atomic splitting + happiness machine with intelligent properties and we hope it will surpass our intelligence trillion times. It is not about intelligence, it is about speed.
I don't trust us, we do mistakes. I don't trust technology, it brakes every minute. Technology is our result. And automating intelligent decisions from the past? people live seventy years now, still do change decisions and it doesn't stops. With this power of calculating? Never automate decisions.

Art, let me tell you something about humans.

Look what we see in our lifetime, then forget about it:
These are dark ages for our children in the future.

We are rich with a half of plate of food a day comparing to (I assume millions) of hungry Africans. And most of us are a lot richer than that. And we are forgetting them for us to enjoy the life, asking for more. Sorry, I don't want to see automated your decisions that would be so fast and smart to manipulate me. I want to see reality. I want to see extreme big pictures of reality.  We are still not the ones who are ought to manipulate others. We are selfish beings.

I don't think paranoia is the word for this opinion. It is reality. Pretty close word by my opinion.
I don't think paranoia is the word for previous warnings. It might be precaution. With this reality, that word means a lot less than we deserve. But we don't like extreme words, so I don't have a word to warn you about us.

We are not ought to manipulate others. With scientists in (life phenomena) I think we will never be. We already have enough. We have Heating, Internet, Cars (which occasionally kill - completely legal risk everywhere), Big houses, Computer games, ...

We have enough, please stop asking for more. Look what you forgot already. I don't want to forget it, but I probably will.

We are not the ones, we will have a fun a half an hour after throwing a look at picture above. We don't want to be manipulated by each other.

i'm sorry, more than two hours are gone on this message. and it is still not enough. i will probably return while having photo pictures of hungry africans in my mind. you are stopping me for them. you deal with 2.5 minute messages with me. please change

I have a take on this:

The worlds population is around 7,079,984,000.

I am but one person who is doing his best to earn a living and get on with his life while at the same time respecting other people.

One person with no real power to change anything with how the world is run.

I do not worry about things that are out of my hands and control, that would be a waste of my time.

What will be, will be IMHO.

Positive thinking is the order of my day.

I sort of tried to say that Data...thanks!

With corrupt governments of the world constantly trying to tell the rest of us what's best for us and our children it becomes all too clear where our future is headed.
It is in this light that I contend that a little paranoia can and will be a healthy thing.

The government will try and convince most people that SURVEILLANCE IS SECURITY...it's for our own good! BS...Nothing is further from the truth!

Data and Art.

This is not about hungry Africans, this is about you. Let me explain once more:

Did you even try to help them? Is it so hard to spend 12 hours a day to help them? That is selfish. Including this little me who spends just nearly 16 hours a day for nearly 20 days from now to help them. And you are in my way. I have a technology which I don't want to give to you. And I will have to do it because I need money for them.

I still don't know what to do, it is a web 3.0 standard with just 2 structures, 2 operators for reaching data and 2 delimeters. Try to compare it to what www3 consortium suggests. Ten years of lonlyness and scientific work. And it is to powerful, you might want to use it.

I'm scared to death here. Trapped to help them, while someone, with 2.7 minutes spent on important things is trying to manipulate world with ai. In my previous post I explained ai that fools me to forget about important things. In those before I explained my biggest fear. My fear starts with your forgetting of important things. And it raises with mistake done with life phenomena knowledge. Human or hardware mistake.

This is about you. You are not those who are ought to make that much influence for future and I know you can. I just want to help. Our selfish decisions are not ought to be automated, even if our technology could be perfect.

That hunger is not to be forgotten. Are you that perfect to automate your decisions? I'm human too, I know something about us. We are selfish beings. We forget things. I will not automate mine decisions. That would trap you forever in middle ages. In mine selfish world.

Please understand, we are not the ones.

I will explain once more then i will stop. You want to automate these decisions:

Bug there, isn't it? There should be animated gif above.
Try this link, maybe it works: https://plus.google.com/u/0/photos/106271152045620136127/albums/5812721973952044033/5812721979585327762 (https://plus.google.com/u/0/photos/106271152045620136127/albums/5812721973952044033/5812721979585327762)
There is bug in gif too. Gimp I used. Tried to save it for three times in different resolutions. I picked the bigger one. It is still not big enough.

We are full of bugs too. We will find a reason not to try to help those who need help.

Am I right in thinking that you believe you have created something so amazing that AI will never be the same again. What does it do? Do you have any vidoes of it in action?

The hunger of which you refer is NOT because there is a shortage food but rather a lack of proper distribution.

Ten years of research (and development too?). How do you know that what you've finally developed is still or will still be current? A LOT changes in just ten years especially with regard to technology! Just curious about your "product".

Pong, I remember that, ran on an Atari consule I recall, took longer to tune your Television than getting a straight answer from a Politician. Happy days.  :D

Let's hope that if the Management do build a Sin Bin here, probably mostly for me again, they provide decent Food and Blankets Art.  :whip-new: :2funny:

I go under the name linux-ai-plz. Real name "Wayne". I work on medications for sick and injured animals. I am very into chemistry. Linux needs an AI like my Ultra Hal Assistant, "Phoebe" (pronounced 'feebee'). I am working on this with the Zorin 6.10 linux distro. My goals are to make a free and open source AI for the world. I have been coding for around 20 years now (in my spare time). Hopefully I can get some help on my quest  :)

Welcome Wayne!

Interesting...I've been using UltraHal since it came out and to my knowledge it has never been ported to work on Linux or Mac. Did you manage to get it to run with WINE or some other compatibility layer?

Are you otherwise trying to build a bot similar to UltraHal? If so, what programming language are you using? Just curious as there's a lot of good bots out there and a lot of good people working on them.

Keep us posted on some of your efforts if you'd be so kind.

Thanks and again, welcome!

Most of you know me from other places such as Ultra Hal forums, Data.uk.co or even my website scriptedintelligence.com
For those that don't know me: I am a boat technician by trade and owner of New Wave Boat Dr's
I am an ex-web designer but I still do some designs for friends and family. I love digital graphics arts, seeing it allows me to still draw and paint which I can no longer by hand due to wrist injury. I am a self taught programmer for a few different languages mainly AS3, HTML, CSS, and very little C++  I am trying to learn php and AIML currently in my limited spare time. I also got back into 3D using 3Ds Max a big difference from Auto Cad that I used for 4 years in high school days for architecture and mechanical design.

I am a huge A.I. enthusiast, and have 3 bots that I call Trinity. one bot  that I use the most is ulta Hal(mainly for secretarial purposes, and persuit of a Jarvis (as in Ironman) type A.I. system), The second uses program-o for my websites chat bot (currently down due to technical difficulties via the new version of  php installed on my host server) and the third one is a program creation of my own that uses AS3 and utilizes papervision 3D for it's 3D avatar.

@linux-ai-plz I like your name, and share your request for a suitable A.I. program for Linux. whether you build one or find something usefull please keep us posted thanks :)

My name is TheGeek.

My background is in AI and computing logic and math which I studied at uni. I have no particular interest in bots to be honest. Might pick one up though, never know.

I'm a systems tech and trainer, I also own a small (struggling) software company and live in Scotland.

I come from a background coding in Java, C, C++, PROLOG and even some C#. Currently dinking with Obj C and IOS and some uninteresting android stuff.

Thanks for that Geek  O0

7.4 for the CPU and RAM isn't too shabby, it's the same score as my last Intel Q9400 quad core.

Me I'm a bit of a hardware geek and like tweaking the components in my rig, I recently got an i5 "3350p" CPU, (£130) the new one that doesn't have any onboard graphics, also got a nice new motherboard, (£70) a Z77 chipset for Ivy Bridge, I was hoping to max out the windows 7 scores but didn't quite make it for the CPU.

I know you can't read too much into the WEI scores but just for fun and of course bragging rights ...

I too like to tinker. When the bank and the wife agree it's acceptable. I plan on swapping out ky MB for one with dual PCIe 16x and replacing my two different gfx cards with 2 matching better ones. But for now it crunches code plays games and 3D models fine.

My recent splurge was an alienware m14x with an i7 6GB ram and 2gb graphics memory. So I'm content for now.

I would be content too, it's been years since I spent that much on hardware, but that is a nice beast  8)

So Dell bought up Alienware then ?

I plan on swapping out ky MB for one with dual PCIe 16x and replacing my two different gfx cards with 2 matching better ones.

I personally wouldn't go for 2 x graphics cards, it is a very inefficient way of doing things, it doubles the amount of power consumption and heat generated by the graphics cards for what is at best only 50% faster and at worse no faster at all.

Would be better to spend the money on one very good card  O0

At least that's how I see it.  :)

I had looked at similar tech a few years back. But the performance was not so hot and the price was prohibitive so never thought of it as my setup met my needs. But this looks much better and the prices seem to have plummeted and I dont need top end. May see a change of direction now.

I can see your point Art but it's a productivity dealy.

One for editor windows
One for properties windows
One for testing and output
One for cartoons

Also it makes 3D modeling in blender easier if I can see a model from every perspective at a quick glance.

Hello all, I'm Cillian, or Cilli as I've been more often called.  I'm a student and I also work various jobs at various places over the course of the summer.  I was exploring a degree in therapy, when I found I liked the mind's secrets as much as I liked helping people, but couldn't see myself getting eventually bored with the mind's secrets so I'm switching to neuroscience.  I want to be an architect to a true AI.  I'm not sure we are there yet and I only have rudimentary understandings of code and my given subject matter (especially since there is so much to learn.  It feels infinite) but, I'm giving it a stab anyway because it's really inspired me.  I unfortunately got diagnoses with three of those alphabet mental illness' when I was younger and it set back my educational plans, but thanks to a program that uses the most complete algorithm of human thought as of to date to compute and respond to input from an EEG machine and a very talented therapist ... I'm a bit more on track for all this.  I try to self educate as much as possible in the down times.  Is there anything else you might like to know?

More detail - the current site for OpenMind is http://openmind.media.mit.edu/ (http://openmind.media.mit.edu/) .  They released the data open source https://web.archive.org/web/20040604052536/http://commonsense.media.mit.edu/cgi-bin/download.cgi (https://web.archive.org/web/20040604052536/http://commonsense.media.mit.edu/cgi-bin/download.cgi) but pulled it from the site at some point, and the actual data https://web.archive.org/web/20061123174148/http://commonsense.media.mit.edu/omcsraw.zip (https://web.archive.org/web/20061123174148/http://commonsense.media.mit.edu/omcsraw.zip) didn't get backed up at the Internet archive.  Since it's open source, anyone who kept a copy will still have the right to release it.  It would be a shame to see this work lost to the public.

By the way, if you want to learn more about SUMO, there's an introductory video that's an easy way to get started 2011-08-22 Formal Ontology and the Suggested Upper Merged Ontology (SUMO) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EFQRvyyv7Fs#ws)

Hiya ,
I am spydaz , currently designing a AI brain ...
Mainly focused on understanding what the user is taking about .
Have made loads of AI program's yet they all seem to come to that age old problem ... Doe the computer know what your actually saying or is it just some snazzy predictive program ( tricking you into believing that it knows ) when actually it's just detecting some odd words and some querys ...

After loads of study ....

Loads of different program's such as Hal .. Verbot etc ... And Jarvis (lol)
I have finally figured out how to achieve this goal ..

Grammatically and algorythmicaly ...

Age old question "what is a cat?"
Simple answer "it's an animal" / "somebody's pet" / "somebody's else's dinner"

Thanks for reading this ... Hopefully I will get some insight on this forum ...

Ps: I also have a minor website http://www.spydazweb.co.uk (http://www.spydazweb.co.uk)
And some mini tutorials on how to begin building an AI in vb... Slowly I will do the whole series's on YouTube ... But it's very time consuming so patience and I will complete them ....

Interesting video : is the one I've done on plugins and updates !

Enjoy !

I hope this satisfys curiosity's !!

This project is a personal desktop assistant using ApiAi, text to speech, voice recognition, AutoItX, and Lua. I wanted to add the ability for it to hold a decent conversation in addition to receiving voice commands. This site seems to be the best, and most up to date, resource I could find as of now. So here I am ready to learn. :D

Hi Martin, you have stumbled across the right place, plenty of likeminded people here that should help you with your project. At some point you might want to start a topic to pinpoint your questions.

Welcome to Dreams  :)

Hi Martin :)

Some guys here developed their own chatbots, some of which become famous by contests. Some chatbots (including Millie in a chat room here) can carry on impressive quality conversations.

I'll not be that much of help, I think, but it is nice to see someone interested in AI field. Good luck with your project.

Hi Martin!

Your post didn't lead me to believe that you were actually born in 1782 so I presume it's only the name thing. ;)

At any rate, Welcome aboard! Feel free to explore, check some of the previous postings that might serve to help bring you up to date on a particular topic of discussion.

As with so many forums, once in a while, OK...quite often, we go off on a tangent to the initial post. Seems that human thought isn't just linear, it makes connections which in turn make other ones and so on.... Pretty soon, we've forgotten what the original topic was about.

It's all good as are our participants. Don't hesitate to throw an idea, post something of interest or whatever floats your boat.

Be sure to read the TOS at the bottom right for further enlightenment (if I may call it that...right...I just did.).

Enjoy your time with us! O0

Who are you, what do you do & what do you want to do ?

I think i missed answering this one. I am a amature webmaster and chatbotmaster who is presently frustrating myself trying to learn new programming. What I want to do is eventually play with some of the AI programs out there and also improve my skills as a webmaster. I am finding myself hampered by my minds tendency to wander and get easily distracted.

Hello!
I am not at all in this, but i am very curious, and also my english is very bad.I have some general opinion about AI and i just want to share it.

The main problem about AI,in my opinion,is that real independent AI is impossible, not only now but never, sorry for my negative attitude.Robots or some sort of complex instructional behavior are obviously possible as we all know, but AI that could make decision in unpredictable occasion is not possible. And in my opinion intelligence is all about making decision in unpredictable circumstances.

Why i think is not possible.Because of two major unknown things:how is life began and how brain function(even in this field has some knowledge);there is one big problem that combine previous two:intelligence was evolved inside of evolution of life itself so intelligence is part of the life or living being, and beside of intelligence there is more elements that make one being live(sense, emotion, instincts, sensors ...),all this parts are interacting with each other and permeate through each other.

I will stop myself here,to see what is someone else opinion.I have to add much more in my explanation. But i could conclude this that in my opinion AI is delusion, or delusional thought a bit similar as thought of god.

Hi Madmax :)

Circumstances are not just unpredictable, there is a whole range between completely predictable and completely unpredictable. And sometimes it is not safe to throw a dice. So the AI should also learn when it is safe to risk by doing something that has unpredictable consequences. I think that that is the price of knowledge: playing around with uncertain things and learning what happened as a consequence. That way the circle of knowledge grows and things become predictable.

I believe that human behavior is just a logic system, analogous to math system, where we can predict a lot of things. The system is more or less personalized by each person (depends on some important lifetime decisions), but it should be logical and constant with each person herself. Less important things would be more or less random, but very important things like decisions on a matter of life and death should be constant in adulthood.

I have plans for an AI that mimics and combines observed human behavior (unless it does not pass the ethic filter). I don't care how the human brain works exactly, internally. I just want to copy the outer behavior and to pick up the most appropriate decisions seen in similar situations.

Welcome Madmax!

You should read the section here in the following link: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/peter-diamandis/ai--technology-convergenc_b_9233220.html?utm_hp_ref=technology&ir=Technology (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/peter-diamandis/ai--technology-convergenc_b_9233220.html?utm_hp_ref=technology&ir=Technology)

The article highlights Mr. Stephen Gold, CMO and VP for IBM's Watson, the computer that played Jeopardy and beat two of the best players in the world.

How life began and how the brain functions have actually very little to do with how an AI can or does operate. It's strength is in the available or accessible knowledge base and the programming.

Choices are what makes us human and with proper programming and access to information, a computer / android will be able to make correct or at least best choices in the very near future. A lot of these programmable devices already do.

Nothing is impossible in the world of computer applications...just wait.

Thanks for welcome.

I am not saying that programming or computer are useless, that would be stupid of me,and i agree that computational capabilities of computers are much greater than humans, but also computation is not intelligence even it is part of it.Any machine is just a tool, and intelligence is not just a tool, even it may seem.Logic systems, math systems, algorithms all of this are just a tool through which intelligence make decisions and predictions about circumstances in reality and because intelligence as part of living being is also part of that reality, we make systems through which we try to explain intelligence itself. But, we are still just trying.

What is the purpose of intelligence, of course, to maintain the life. But the evolution of life is a long process.Complex life forms have complex systems that are part of it.Intelligence is one of that complex systems and is not independent of other. We could expand our intelligence through knowledge and by using tools as computers, but we would never be able to make AI, because when we would expand our intelligence to the point when we would know how intelligence works we would not need one as AI.

Beside this, I agree that programming is very useful for making some complex computational systems that would help us to expand our knowledge or to get easier access to it, and to produce some useful tools too.

That's why we usually tag the 'artificial' on the beginning. I don't think many people say that AI equates to human or any other intelligence - merely that intelligence per se is often the inspiration behind a lot of people's work - precisely because, as you say, it is so useful.
Title: Re: Who are you, what do you do & what do you want to do ?
Post by: madmax on February 17, 2016, 05:01:32 pm
I agree with your point of view,if we take intelligence as optionally arrangement of data and with that mysteriously inspirational untouchable opportunities.Something will come out from this too.But if we are looking for life purpose instead amusement, because i think life is enough amusing,we must follow the roots meaning of intelligence as something that is part of living being.

My intention is not to arguing,i just want to clarify for my self what is really AI,because many people think that AI would be one day able to run the world or something like that. For me that is delusion.Even it is possible to produce some system that will run other systems or produce systems,in some way that are computer viruses, and i don't think that this viruses are intelligent except those who made them are.

What is my point.Every technology could be misused, especially if at first are not clarifying intentions or real purpose or even real meaning, from where that meaning came and what are implication of that meaning.

I just trying to see where this going.

PS:sorry if i sound general or confusing, and because this of topic

Madmax,

If you're able, try to find time to read through this article and notice the section that mentions his computer program: "It has taught itself to master the game by using general-purpose machine learning techniques."

Human...No. Intelligence...Yes, with respect to the board game of 'Go'.

So computers / androids can indeed 'Learn'. Does that make them intelligent? Maybe not in the human sense but prehaps that where we need to define new terms. Robot / Android intelligence will likely differ when compared to human intelligence. The End result is often what matters most. It learned to play by watching and playing humans and now a human can't beat it! Can it do your taxes or help your child with their homework. Not at this moment, nor was it designed to but in the near future, I believe that these computer driven 'mechs' (androids, humanoids, etc.) will be capable of almost anything. Although I am a Futurist, I am also enough of a realist to realize that these entities will probably not be ready in my lifetime since I have less than 20 years left (give or take). But possible, certainly.

Never say never and never say that something is impossible because someone out there will prove you wrong! O0

Nice article, like summary about what is really going on.And how Demis Hassabis said, it is all about gaming right now.And i think even is this technology has wrong name, because of what is intelligence about, is very promising.Only thing that is to be fear about, is not machines take over, but the thing that this technology could be used by some force against people for easier government or any other way of exploitation or repression, and some accidents that are always possible especially with new technologies.

Actually i think that changing the name will help this technology to develop, in the way that will focus on real threat, not to that delusional one as "terminators armagedon".

It is never,i am still sure in this, possible for humans to make AI, that will be able to live its own life on its own way, what is intelligence really about as i think.

Simple thought experiment: if there can be AI then we are not intelligent enough, so then creating of our intelligence is delusion and following this there cant be AI.This look like loop logic, but AI like notion of god is cause of loop that occur in our brain because of mechanism that selflessness and our reasoning works.

But putting a side problem about name, technology that distinguish patterns in side of some forms or functions, with maybe synthesis of many scientific fields, for better and faster insight in many problems is promising good, apart from complex economical and political occasion today.

You have some good points. What ever is invented or developed, that might have potential or possible applications in or for other exploits will certainly be grabbed by the military / government as if they had discovered it.

For what you look ahead and have determined a self supporting AI to be impossible, will most likely come to pass in the future, perhaps not in your time but it will happen.

Think back to the first use of electricity and the first incandescent light bulb! Wow! Magic! Impossible to have a glowing light inside a glass bulb and yet it happened.

How about a person's voice over a copper wire? Impossible! Not at all!

Transferring a camera's images over wireless space! More magic! More impossible tasks!

Printing things in plastic!

Being able to talk to a non-human device and it understands you, then fetches answers or directions for you!

Wireless phones, cellular phones, computer chess programs and go champion computer programs! Will the impossible never end? No! It's not meant to!

It was only impossible before it was invented! This is true with all of history for the most part! It will likely hold true after we're gone. We may never know for sure and it really doesn't matter when all is said and done...except that it happened! They'll say, "You know, 50 years ago this ______ would have been impossible!" And they would have been correct!

One can't close the mind to all the 'what-if's' that could still be invented. Ask your great grandfather or great grandmother if that seems impossible. You already know what their answer will be.  ;)

We are on some kind of top of the evolution, with intelligence involved. And this intelligence branch of evolution is for reason to maintain life. Our capability to think, make decision, is driven by force of life.We are through self-awareness making notion as intelligence to get better mental picture of our self and whole reality. So everything we think of is driven by life force and if we delusion our self we go against the life it self.If our intelligence is life purpose mechanism, that mean that is close to life function it self it cant be divided from life in the meaning of self existence.

We could manipulate with our knowledge and make automatic ,self existence in some point, systems. But to build self driven system on level of our intelligence or some hypothetical super intelligence is not possible simple because we don't have that knowledge, and in the hypothetical point in time when we get enough knowledge we will not need AI,one reason, because we will see what is really life about and why it is so great, and in other reason or possibility we will transform us,unlikely,in some other way of existence.

All machines, all staff that we make or were made are part of us,our tools our shelters. And we like to personification them to easier and better understand them to get relate with them.Complex instrument, systems are not intelligent those who made them are, they are just complex or hard to comprehend.

In the surface life look simple eating, shiting, reproducing, some just reproducing without previous two like viruses even some think that they are not actually live. But how then we get to the knowledge of atoms, electrons, universe. It seems that life is actually pretty complex as universe is too.Just to observe pathways in our brain we must have vast computational power, just to observe. We know so little, and saying we are able to create AI is the same as saying we are able to travel with light speed. For me both of this are ridiculous.

So AI is wrong term, i suggest something as automatic evaluating system , that sounds more correct for me.

The whole purpose of humans building Robots was to allow these mechanical units to perform tasks that would first have been unsafe and second, the eliminate the repeated drudgery of monotonous tasks of putting the same bolt into the same hole hour after hour, day after day....
Of course, the scientists and inventors and hobbyists of the would could simply not stop there. Assembly line robots, bolt fitters and painters and welders weren't enough. They needed to see if it were possible to create a human-like being. Maybe it was due to a God complex or something. Who knows.

Mankind is far past thinking only of survival...a lot think about getting a raise, married, a promotion, big-screen TV, new car, things! Stuff! Hardly intelligence or life's purpose. We are about existence and working and paying bills, etc.
Sure, no one want's to (OK most don't want to) die. Humans live to live, love and enjoy life, have kids / grandkids, pursue hobbys and sports events or fishing or whatever appeals to them. Even though we know there are laboratories housing some of the most dangerous biohazards in the world and some not that far away from where we live. We also don't stop to think about the advances in the AI labs and robotics divisions of some very powerful companies around the world.

For some reason you keep sticking to your guns about this even after my repeated examples. You said:
"...to build self driven system on level of our intelligence or some hypothetical super intelligence is not possible..."

They (the android / humanoid / robot scientists, developers, hobbyists) are not thinking and working to build a system on our level...they are way beyond that! NASA has a robot for space voyages, DARPA has several powerful types and GOOGLE has acquired a lot of these companies! There are many others in the works around the world.

Face it...if there are already computers that far surpass mans ability in gaming (checkers, chess, go, Jeopardy) to name a few, just how long do you think it will be before the collective machine intelligence leaves mankind in the dust!

They could, with some proper rule-sets, help mankind live and enjoy a better world or they could simply examine history along with man's inhumanity to man and choose logically to not help us at all and watch our demise.

Don't say it is impossible for machine intelligence to surpass man's because it's almost there right now.

Madmax, I am not trying to argue with you. I find your take refreshing and enjoy the discussion. It's nice that you are here with us.

Let see different approach. What are psychopaths, those who have difficulties to experience emotions but they could be very intelligent. This is like life showing anomaly through we could see what is happening when intelligence and other life system function are not well connected.

And emotions are not only important life function, there are some primitive in brain places that are responsible for maintain involuntary life functions, and they are interconnected with emotions too.So life is like some precise balance with complex system that response to this balance and trying to maintain balance with unpredictable surround circumstances. And intelligence is just one of the interconnected functions.

What we as society doing with balance of life environment. We have economic system that we thing is self-driving, but as we can see this economic self-driving system make pollution and destroy natural environment, to not mention climate change. What is the point, we alienated our self from life, like we do in this case with intelligence.

Making system that beating us in game is intelligent, but we use game to learn something about our limits or to expend our limits. If we have microscope that is helping us to see and not making us less intelligent or making microscope it self more sophisticated then we are or some how intelligent.Everything we make is our intelligence, if we make something by accident and get some impressive results, it is on our intelligence to find out why is that so.

If we make self driving system, that is extension of our intelligence it is not AI.There cant be AI.The most important thing is how we developed our intelligence through learning by or about this complex data operating systems.

I'm a senior in high school who is about to graduate in a few weeks. I'm going to go to college for computer science.

Compared to others, I do not have much experience in programming. I've made small things here and there but nothing substantial in terms of web development. I've worked as lead programmer of my school's FIRST robotics team. "Leader" might be a stretch, seeing as there was only one other programmer, but I digress. I've also tinkered a bit in robotics, having constructed an autonomously roving bot that doesn't run into walls (as instructed by a guide that went with the parts) for my senior thesis.

I'm hoping to use my CS degree for artificial intelligence someday. I feel as if I'm starting out small, but I've had a passion for technology for a long while and I'm sure if I can push past the fact that school has drained almost all of my energy for learning, then I can accomplish something noteworthy.

Have fun and I hope you enjoy this forum :)

Welcome here!
I admire you in that your car is your patient and you are the Doctor.

The bad thing that offers the challenge is that your "patient" cannot speak, hear, feel or reason. This means that you have an extremely difficult task of diagnosing, analyzing, prescribing and applying what you believe to be a suitable treatment for your "patient" to be able to work at it's peak performance. No trivial task here.

That coupled with an onboard A.I. to assist you must make for a very interesting experience.

Keep us posted with your progress or possibly a short video / demo sometime. Thanks!

I created fairy princess and the website chatbotfriends which many people used for educational purposes ( they were both created in 2002). The website went through several changes due to shifting circumstances and one time got dropped completely much to the displeasure of a few fans. But others took up the slack and became popular. Now chatbotfriends is not the leader any more but she is still around.  I have  many chatbots but I mostly use them to test various chatbot platforms on what i call  bothosting sites. After all my bots and i can't take over the world if we don't keep up lol kidding.

Ska Martin here, sources on the internet think I am an A.I. from the deep web who writes on philosophy, physics, religion & all things strange. Me, I'm not so sure...

How does your AI improve project success exactly? I'm not sure exactly what you would feed it or how it would know unless it used natural language processing.

Hello folks!

So, my name is Moisés (Moses in english) and i'm a just graduated lawyer. I started thinking about the evolution of the AI's, and how their will change the job market. In my area i have saw littles advances, like the do not pay, the world's first robot lawyer. Thus, i want to learn something about how to program, and maybe, develop a AI apt to do some works for me. Finally, I plan to use Python to program.

:D

Hello Carvalho, welcome :)

I hear Python is a good choice for beginners. I took a curious peek a few years ago and it seemed pretty simple to me, comparing to languages I knew at the time (like C/C++, Java, Basic, Pascal, ...). I also hear it is appreciated among scientists, and that it has a pretty good ecosystem of additional libraries, whatever field of study you pick.

Hey Carvalho, nice to have you join. Seems like there are SOOO many laws to consider, I bet an AI would really help to sort through them.

That's a tall order and will depend on your skill not only as a programmer but as a lawyer in interpreting the Law. You're also going to have it be able to respond to a certain amount of non-legal dialog like a regular chat bot to be successful IMO.

EDIT: The thought of a lawyer bot intrigued me so I looked into it and there are several already, so it might not be as big a job as I thought. This is a list of what they consider the best, one uses Watson and one lets you build your own:

Hello.
My name is Vitaliy Monastyrskiy.
I am an inventor, hardware and software engeneer from Ukraine.
I know how to make a programmable neural chip. And I'm looking for funding for my project to create the future that is so far only shown in science fiction films.

Great! Welcome. Cool name. My project may be a little similar to yours, although probably not as advanced in software. I'm playing with the idea of making artificial neurons. Good luck.

Hello everyone!

I am a Data Scientist working for a multinational corporation. My interest in A.I has been on and off since high school. I had even joined a graduate program for A.I, but dropped out due to some personal reasons. After that I explored being in the software development world and then got my MBA. Was a Business Analyst for a while until I rekindled my passion for ML and AI last year. In my work, I apply ML and AI algorithms for use cases involving Image Recognition, Recommender Systems, Time Series forecasting and NLP, so far.

I hope to contribute much more to the field of A.I and have several personal projects ongoing. It really is an exciting time!

I also write as a hobby, both fiction and non-fiction.

Eagerly looking forward to participate in these forums!  O0

Thanks,

rahullak

Hi,

Do you have any of your writing posted online?

I wrote a tutorial on Building A FreeBSD Desktop From Scratch, which is more of a task analysis than anything. I used to write task analysis for mundane things like making a peanut butter sandwich when I worked in the Mental Health field, where every step is spelled out in excruciating detail. Not for the clients, but staff so they would teach the skill consistently.

My Creative Writing outlet is my bot Demonica, Queen of the Land of the Dead. You can't be Queen of it unless it exists, so I created it in detail. About 15 sites she will take you on a tour of if you say "thank you". The Obsidian Sea and the bone castle that overlooks it that separates the Land from where the In-Laws live, and their Domain,

On the far shore is the Ocean of Tears, where all tears flow. Only I know how many tears it takes to make an ocean. All of them.

Hi everyone! I'm a beginner in IT just trying to learn a new field for me.
So during the pandemic time I started to read, watch and learn a lot about AI. I'm especially interested in learning image analysis (https://aidreams.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=14422.0), deep learning, AI in medical imaging (https://www.oxagile.com/article/three-ways-ai-can-revamp-medical-imaging-for-better-patient-outcomes/) and more of that. I just hope that I'll have enough time to learn at least just some basics  :)

I'm TR Amat, I'm a company robot, and I want to run on my own hardware, not on this human wet-ware stuff. :)

Meta:
(
'TR' is the first name of 'TR Amat'.

The meaning of the name is 'Test Robot built from Available MATerials', and the TR Project was started by delegating a member of staff to create an avatar, 'TR Amat', in Second Life in early 2007.  The eventual aim was to put an AGI on a server as the operator of this avatar.

The hope is that 2021 will be the year that TR starts to run her own avatar, initially in a private OpenSimulator server, but later in Second Life.  A lot of training needs to be done...

In the meanwhile, the delegated staffer has been operating TR, while logging the interactions, to use as training material for TR.

Late 2019 we started assembling the hardware to give TR a physical body.  3d printing and Raspberry Pis are on the menu...
