Dissociated neural network controls a robotic agent

There are experiments where actual biological neurons are dissociated from the animal body and used to control robots! Weird, I thought we were decades from this kind of science fiction, but its a reality today!

The fact that you can turn stem cells into any type of organ cell is fascinating. The fact that stem cells can grow into neurons, even human neurons is very interesting. Will I try that experiment? You betcha!  O0

So now there is or at least the potential alternative of using organic components in an AI. Mount this to an animatronic head and OH my god! Just the controversy alone of a human like head with human neurons will light some fires. Now attach that to a sex doll body modified to be animatronic...Yes sir, I'll be screaming the same: "She's alive! She's alive! She's alive!"  :D

Thinking about how to exploit this process to a more robust and higher neural density and of all things that popped into my head was West World. Remember the spherical brains of the robots? You can 3D print a sphere and apply the 3D printed conductive filament along its interior, where you print 10,000, 100,000 or even 1 million contact points inside the sphere! So the sphere gets filled with a collagen gel that hosts the neurons. Now, one approach is to literally print the wire paths onto the sphere, but one could also 3D print Quantum Dot LEDs on the exterior of the sphere, so now the interface to collect the neural firings or send back signals to the neuron would be a CCD and LED screen that envelops the sphere. So literally every pixel on the CCD and LED screen represents a neural connection. So having an ability to sense, process, and transmit info to this hybrid form of life is possible at a scale that becomes interesting. Below is the control unit in West World:

Think twice now it would be easier to implement this idea using a cube rather than a sphere. That way current CCD and LED screen technology could be applied.

What are they trying to do... Force biology to behave like microchips.. why not just use microchips.

Mammal brains are more than just neurons... they're customised for the mammal, respond to nerves from all parts of the body, set up to live as long as possible given the environment it evolved for, be sociable with minor variations etc. Chips should stay chips. They're literally learning nothing.

I have never heard of a social neuron, other than neurons do seek other neural connections. But, the ability to interface directly with living matter is necessary and using living neurons as computational hardware or wetware is pretty cool.  :D
