Giant Robots Invade Pittsburgh

Brittnee Koebler writes to tell us about "Pittsburgh, Pa.’s summer
celebration of robotics, Robot 250, a
community art and technology program that is taking over the city this
summer. Robot 250 is a city-wide community art and technology program
that will take Pittsburgh by robots - The festival will turn Pittsburgh
into a living, breathing learning lab by enabling students, families,
artists and the public to build their own robots. Beginning on June 17
through July 28, visitors and native Pittsburghers will start to see
gigantic robotic installations or “BigBots” in various locations
throughout the city. There will be 11 BigBots in total and individuals
passing by will have the opportunity to interact with BigBots firsthand,
such as the “Reach, Robot,” a robotic installation that will be
activated by pedestrians, triggering a series of sound segments that
will create a symphonic environment, 10 feet above the heads of PPG
plaza pedestrians. To learn more about BigBots or the Robot 250 festival
visit robot250.org." Planning and development for this event has
been underway for quite a while. For more, see last year's CMU
press release on arts-based robots.

Interesting.
If I lived closer I would go for a weekend.

Same here!  This is when I get really jealous of the US, we just don't see anything on this scale over here.  Ah well, maybe one day we will catch up...
