Phoenix Mars Robot Searches for Water

The Phoenix
Mars Lander has landed safely near the north pole of Mars and has
already started returning
photos.
What's more, it may have already spotted some ice according to a Science
News article (see also the NASA
new release). The bad news is that the robot seems to have developed
a short circuit. According to an AP
report, the short isn't considered serious and NASA scientists
believe they can work around the problem. The robot is loaded with
sensors including an arm
camera, a stereo
imager, a microscopic imager, meteorological
sensors, and electrochemistry
sensors. For a nice overview of the Phoenix mission, see the recent
Nature
article.
