Get one of these new robots called ConnectR from
those innovative folks at iRobot:

They make robots to vacuum, wet mop, vacuum the workshop,
vacuum the swimming pool, clean the gutters and let you see
and hear family, kids or friends while you're away from home
with ConnectR.
iRobot also builds and supplies military and law enforcement
with various types of assistant rover robots.

We have the bot vacuum cleaner in our large family room.
We let him run a couple hours to clean the carpet.
Cat is very use to it. ;)

Although I sort of got off track, the purpose of my post was really about the
ConnectR, a robot that can be steered and has a webcam, uses a wireless
high speed connection and allows the viewer (remotely) to see his wife,
kids, family / friends from his / her laptop from where ever they are. Great
for those away from home business trips, etc.
It's pretty much a one way street because only the caller can enjoy a visual
image of the connection. The family at home will just hear the caller's voice.
Neat innovation as one could have it follow the kids to a different room and
see what they made or check on the pets, etc. Might be great for a security
sneak peak while one is away in order to check in on the house.
