DARPA's ARM program shows progress
2 March 2012, 6:20 am

DARPA's Autonomous Robotic Manipulation (ARM) program is developing software to perform human-level tasks quickly and with minimal direction. The robotic arm in the video was built from commercial components and performs the tasks shown using vision, force, and tactile sensing, without active human control.

Without the DARPA, no Internet.

Without Internet, no Second Life.

There are no wars in SL, it's a peaceful world.
But SLers say thank you DARPA!!  O0

I've heard that some people are so involved with games like SL that they stay up for extremely long periods of time, have lost jobs, relationships, etc. and have become beyond compulsive...more like "addicted"!

People still need to realize that it is just a game / simulation and that RL offers far better relationships in ways that matter. Or so I've been told.  ::)

No wars in second life GT?

Maybe that’s because all the griefers have been “ethnically cleansed” and booted out of SL  ;D.

Thank you Art to worry about my RL. DARPA'ARM is a very serious subject but you know I never miss an occasion to share my enthusiasm for SL (I suppose there is a thread for that). Maybe I exaggerate a bit. :)

Game, extension of real life, roleplay, drug, double life, schizophrenia, the definition isn't important, it's just... SL (virtual double life is a good one).

But I'm very careful. I know the limits to respect before becoming totally crazy. A wall exists between my SL and my RL and, fortunately, it's physically and mentally impossible to cross to the other side.

I only spend two short (but very intense) hours everyday inside SL, late in the night (early in the morning?).

Obviously I spend a lot of time in RL too, to improve my SL, by making specific things for it. But not much more than any member of this forum, addicted to a personal passion (programming, building bots, making movies).

I sincerely think that living a few hours in SL is less dangerous than talking 24/7 to a Hal. Just my (partial) opinion, of course UltraHal is a great program.

Data, I affirm there is no war in my places. No reason. ;)

GT,

Sorry friend, I wasn't trying to bust on you or act as a nag. I was merely pointing out things that I had been told and also observed to a degree with some friends in the past.

You seem as if you have a good grasp on your health and your gameplay as they parallel each other pinging between SL & RL as it were. Good for you!

I'll leave you with this parting shot (tongue in cheek) - "Keep it real!"  ^-^

No problem, Art. You're right. Sometimes SL might have a bad influence on RL. I remember we have had a similar conversation in the past.

Afraid I'm addicted nowadays. "Reasonably" addicted but addicted...  ;)

BTW Tyler, about DARPA, the movie you show us is GREAT.
