Passive Force Balance Aids Tiny Aerial Robots

Researchers at Harvard have created a tiny
version of an automobile differential
to balance wing forces.
It turns out that that the torque applied to wings is much more
important to stable
flight than their exact position.
This passive approach automatically adjusts to compensate for various
forces like wind gusts, shifting payloads and damage that can throw a
winged robot off course.
This approach also leads to a simpler and more lightweight system that
is easier to produce.
