tBot Maintains a Delicate Balance

A Bucknell University
news release describes a recent demonstration of the school's robots
for a visiting Congressman who helped secure federal funding for the
universities unmanned ground vehicle program. Among the robots
demonstrated was the very cool tBot, a robot which can roll on the
ground using all four of its wheels. Nothing unusual there. But tBot
can also use its two front arms to lift itself off the ground and stand on
its two rear wheels, becoming a two-wheeled gyroscopic balancing robot.
That's a
pretty good trick. Surprisingly, video of tBot hasn't made its way on to
YouTube yet but you can find some video of the robot in old-timey
proprietary formats like Quicktime at the IHMC robot media
page and also on the tBot video
page at The University of Queensland. The IHMC website also has lots
more photos of tBot.
