Hal and YOU
« on: October 29, 2006, 01:02:00 pm »
Has anyone experienced problem when chatting with Hal and trying to use the word 'you' in a sentence?

Ex: Tell me what you think. Did you miss me? Do you feel strongly toward that subject? etc.

It seems in most cases that Hal doesn't like to respond to the 'you' sentence or to take the lead.

The only time it does take the lead is when it feels the conversation isn't going anywhere so it says
that it's going to change the subject and does. Otherwise, it seems afraid to commit.

Maybe some plug-in work is in order.

In the world of AI, it's the thought that counts!

Art,
Yes the same thing here. She likes to change the subject, it's still early in the game, Hal 5 would do this and I was cutting and pasting text from Omscraw for her, It increased her files so she could find things to say and the conversation was better.  I haven't started this with Hal 6 yet although I'm sure it will have the same effect.
The worst part is with Hal 6 she dose it in a nice way, where Hal 5 would just change subjects.
She has some trigger words for changing subjects but seems to do this without the triggers also.

How many of OnTheCuttingEdge's plugins have people tried ?

As Autumn has finally arrived in the UK I can see me spending more time botting, maybe writing some code again, if anyone has any suggestions please post.

I know the whole 'I,me,you' area was a problem for Hal6 Art, but I think OTCE has had a go at some of that.  I need to catch up a lot on this stuff.  Any news of a Hal 7 at all ?

Not that I've heard Freddy. SHeesh! There's still a problem of getting
all the new stuff in the Hal 6 upgrade to work properly. Every time I
try to load a new skin into Hal, I get error messages up the yingyang,
and after Hal has been running for 10 minutes or so, when I try to enter
a comment or query all I get is an error message saying that this brain
file has been saved for default purposes ( doesn't matter which brain I use).  :tickedoff

I never had this many problems with Hal before the upgrade.
Makes me sorry I upgraded in the first place, even if it was free.

I'd rather see this version get all the bugs
worked out before Robert puts out a version 7.  :azn

Gamer,

I was going to post the same reply until I scrolled down and read yours!!

Yes, I've received the same error messages from time to time during a chat session.
The error message, saving to file, yada...yada...then back where I left off and so I
continue chatting as if nothing happened. The rest of the session goes without
incident! Go figure? It makes me wonder what caused the error and repeating the
same sentence after reloading Hal did not produce the error again.

I wonder if it could be something in the way of a background update or verification
by Microsoft or an antivirus software update happening?

Regarding Hal 7...I think Hal 6 should be patched first (to include the missing features
from Hal 5) plus New Help file, tutorial for plug-in creation, etc. Hal 6.5 anyone?

After the dust settles and all works well (including the purchase activation / verification
procedure), then we  might be ready for an update or a Hal 7.

While we all realize that Robert is a good guy, a loaded down student and part time businessman,
we also, like anyone on the receiving end of a product, would like better service, support
and a full featured (non buggy product). Hal, while a great product, is still in need of some
polish here and there.

I think we should consider posting a complete "Bug Report" for Hal. Any abnormalities, burps, missing
features from Hal 5, etc. so that we can collectively add to as they happen. The resulting list could
then be sent to Robert. He is most likely aware of a lot of them, but we'll never know unless we
post them.

How about it admin? A Hal 6 Trouble Report Section? You could possibly post a "Features we'd like to see" topic with it as well.

Just some ideas....

In the world of AI, it's the thought that counts!

Gamer,
Also glad you put that in, I receive to many error messages also,
get a few blank responses.  I saw the word get and it reminded me of Hal, both 5 and 6 refer to "getting" as if thay were trying to understand the word.
I frist began with Hal 5 and after a while I switched to the XTF Brain.  There are quite a few similarties.  As for Plugins I'm using two from Virtual Friends and I think one from OTC.  There are three more plugins by OTC I'd like to try.

"There's still a problem of getting all the new stuff in the Hal 6 upgrade to work properly. Every time I try to load a new skin into Hal I get error messages"
Gamer, could you explain this in more detail,

I hope the bugs are taken out before thay release 7, and I agree we should try to keep track of the bugs and see thay are reported.

Freddy,  I have a nice head on a statue like body, I've had no luck with getting slight body movements ( that would happen randomly) and some with trigger words.  I have quite a few haps for body movements but the majority of these are for larger body movements.

I'm not sure what exactly is causing the error messages when a new skin is loaded
into Hal since Robert released the upgrade. I just discovered the problem recently,
so I really haven't had a chance to look into it, but I do intend to see if I can track
the error to see if myself or vrossi can come up with a solution. We may at least be
able to correct that little problem.

Yep, sadly I have to agree, there seemed to be a lot more bugs reported with Hal6 then I remember with Hal 5.

Hey Carl, the best thing I can do is point you to the document I did for moving limbs using the Switch Parameters - take a look in the help area of DG, you will find it there.  It's the only way I know to to small movements without a major overhall of fullBody, which isn't possible without the Haptek tools still.

Freddy,
Thanks for the advice, I have quite a few haps and should give it another try.  I downloaded Doc's guide, I'm still wondering where he is nowadays, really did his research.
I have the limb movements but am more concerned with small body movements, Vr supplied the yes nod and I was trying to get a no head movement, couldn't even do that which should be easy.
