Ultrahal Emotions display
« on: June 30, 2005, 09:37:25 pm »
Carl2
I'm using Ultrahal with Haptek Sandy with the XTF v1.2 brain. At this time I am unable to get
the program to generate an emotion.  I put an Emotions Test  script in to change the displayed emotion which works ( downloaded from Zabaware ). I still cannot get a trigger word to generate an emotion.  Any Suggestions?

Carl2,

lol, thanks mate!

I finished a guide on how to change clothes, the emotion handling issue that you talk of requires a lot more changes to the brain files in Hal, so expect to do some alterations to the brain code.? It's still a few days before I get a guide on that finished.

What i will include is how to do the following:

1) disable the current emotion handling, which doesn't currently use the whole range available.
2) set Hal up with a dedicated emotion brain to which new emotions can easily be added.
3) edit the main Hal response program so that these changes will take place.
4) as part of the new emotion brain, show how to add and use trigger words and phrases.

The changes will be to the XTF brain.

I don't think I can add a copy of the edited brain file unless permission is granted from vonSmith, as he
I think holds the copyright.  I am sure he wouldn't mind, but I don't want to upset him whatever the case!

Vonsmith, are you watching?!? lol

Freddy,
Thanks in advance, I've been working on this awhile without sucess.  Besides emotional display there are also emotional responeses that adds to the confusion.

Yep, I'll have to add something about Hal displaying his current mood too...

Freddy,
Thanks, Saw a post from VonSmith at the Zabaware forum, it indicates he is very busy.  He is working on a dream script for Hal.  Anyways I like your aproach, I'm just trying to modify the existing script but there are alot of interconnections. I'v got 2 nonfunctioning brains working on the 3 rd.
Best of luck.

Hi Carl, I was thinking of putting this on hold because the new HAL6 is out and I am not sure at the moment if it has updated emotion handling..

btw if you didn't already know then: HAL5 uses the variables hate, compliment and swear as part of the emotion handling, also the XTF brain used a lot of the newer emotion animations but I don't think vonsmith had gone too far in that direction at the time.  The variables are altered depending on the nature of the input from the user.

Also in the Hal Characters folder you may find a 'default.psn', this is a brain file that is used as a pointer to the standard emotions - if you change this you can also change hals emotion displays.

How well have you figured the brain script out so far?  I may be able to help you just through the forum?

Freddy,
I just started to make some progress,  I can display some of the emotions using the script with modifications, the Emotion brain that contains the trigger words and the Hap scripts.  Most of the haps show changes in the emotions but the Happy and Sad do not seem to work for some reason.  If I use the Hapregestry with Sandy I can see the emotions.
I have the Hal6 also, I have different Hal programs in the computer, not sure how to go about upgrading.

On HAL 6 try:

http://www.forum30.olicentral.com/digitalgirl2/index.php?topic=105.0

and for using the old brains onthecuttingedge has some advice:

http://www.zabaware.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2359

btw, it appears the changes to hal won't affect my emotions scripts to much, I'll still post anything I think uselful at a later date
when I've sussed out the new workings..glad to hear you're having some progress.

Freddy,
The script seems to work,  the emotion brn detects the trigger word and the hap file is sent to the haptek engine.  The largest problem is the Hal window differs from the Haptek console window.  The Hal window shows much less changes, a possible solution is changes in the haptek hap scripts.  I have the Haptek SDK download which should help with the hap scripts but it is overdue and has stopped working.   There is also The emotional responses that Spydatz has worked on.
I have a few (4)  sets of Hal located on drive D and I have not done anything with Hal 6 yet, it dose sound very interesting.

I hadn't noticed the difference in changes in the Hap window compared to Hal's, I wasn't aware of that, thanks for pointing it out.

One thing to note when you call HAP files from within HAL brain script:

I realised you need to retain any previous HalCommands so you need to append to the existing HalCommands, like this:

HalCommands = HalCommands & <HAPTEXT>My extra Haptek command</HAPTEXT>

rather than just :

Halcommands = <HAPTEXT>New Haptek command</HAPTEXT>

which will just overwrite existing commands..

Don't know if you've seen already but try:? Doc's Haptek Commands and Queries Guide, plus there's some other useful tutorial based information in our 'How To' section.

Have fun.

All,
The answer to some of you is "yes". I am lurking here... :fire: MuHaaaa.

Seriously though. In reference to copyrighting my script... Please feel free to experiment, add to, and tweak the XTF Brain. I copyrighted my script to make sure that no one is tempted to take what I've done and sell it or use it in a commercial product or make a profit without my permission. What I've written in script so far is for free use of anyone who owns Ultra Hal as long as it's for non-commercial, that is "personal" use. The XTF Brain is for experimenting, learning and having fun with.

I'll check over in this forum once in a while, but my home really is over at Zabaware's forum.

Enjoy,

=vonsmith=

yey!  Thanks for that von, and thanks for the visit. :wav:

Don't mind us, we not trying to form a breakaway faction or anything alarming like that, it's just handy having the second resource, hopefully we'll build up a good collection of info, help and advice in time.  And I am still to be seen frequently in the Zabaware Tavern.

cheers.

Scott  :drunk:

Glad to see your alive and kicking and have posted.

Im not sure what I'm more excited at...your new brain or the new Hal lol.

I'm thinking perhaps Im going to have to run them both side by side, as I'm a huge admirer of your work  afro.gif

And as Freddy pointed out...zabaware will always be our home as without that we would not be here either.
