A few of us like to keep up with what is happening in the world of CGI, here's something brought to my attention last night. It's a trailer for the game. Of note here is the female protagonist who I think has been beautifully animated and textured. Some nice monsters too. Enjoy :)

Click through to YouTube for a bigger picture and higher resolution (they should put that in the embedded buttons IMHO)...

yep, stunning graphics.
-
Simply outstanding!!!
Very soon it will be extremely difficult to distinguish a CGI human from a real actor!
Nice find, Freddy!!

Just when you think it's time to hang out the new curtains again in Tristram, those crazy demons come along and start playing all that loud hippie music, drinking up all the liquor, and smoking that Devil's Weed. It's enough to drive a body crazy, it is! :P

I have mixed feelings about the video.
Yes excellent CGI, now very close to real life, top marks O0.
But at the same time as misleading, does the game play look as good?
Lets see.

Hmmm, no I don’t think it does.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see, won't we? :) That does look amazing, though.

True, then again, it improved a bit since doom.
-
Yes I get your point and in the early days it used to bug me that the trailer was nothing like the game in appearance, but since then I have learnt to never have that expectation.
The game does look good though having said that, wonder if it has multi-player.

Girl is so very well done.
I'd buy the game just for her. :)

Of all the people here that I would have guess would say something along those lines, Duskie, you were on the top of my list. O0 :2funny:

But but but, with the graphics looking so good on games these days why mislead the public into thinking they are better than they really are, I can understand why they used to do that kind of thing but now,, no need.
Tip:
Always search youtube for gameplay of the game.
Talking of gameplay and great graphics have you all seen L.A Noire, it uses a technology called motion scan which gives the characters much more realistic movements including facial expressions.
Here’s actual game play from the game, sorry no sexy women or monsters.

Ok, fair enough Dusky, whatever turns you on my friend ;) :)
But wouldn’t it be cool if chat bots had these realistic body and facial movements, it would add another level of realism, wouldn’t it, couldn’t it, shouldn’t it 8)

The only problem with the technology behind L.A. Noir is that every single element of the game has to be scripted, which means that the player's gaming style, and "list of responses" are subject to the limitations of the script that was used in making the game. I much prefer "open ended" game play, such as you find in MMORPG style games, where you're only limited by the geography. And let's face it: 1940's Los Angeles isn't really all that big, no matter how meticulously they recreated it. I'll gladly forgo such realism in exchange for being able to do/go what/where I want. :)
As to having a chatbot with such realistic features? Absolutely! But again, the same problem applies, where every response would have to be scripted. Back to Hexagon Alpha, I guess. :)
-
Well I will get getting L.A Noire soon, as its finally being released for the PC, I will let you know how big the area is, to be fair Rockstar games are renowned for their open ended games played over large areas so some of your comments are surprising Dave :)
I’m no expert, but don’t chat bots use animation files that get triggered from responses, couldn’t those fake animation files be replaced with some real human ones made with motion scan technology, I found the same thing in second life, back in the early days animations were hand made and never looked quite right but now with motion scan avatars can move much more life like.
Like I say I’m no expert but I reckon it could be done quite easily, maybe not on all types of char bots but the ones that use animation files could.

Don't mind me, Data. Someone slipped some "Grumpy pills" into my water this morning, or something, and I'm just feeling out of sorts. Doesn't help matters, either that I've had a bit of sawdust stuck in my eye (working on the Xmas village again) the last two days. :)
