Meet the Military-Funded AI that Learns as Fast as a Human

Why does it frighten me that the military is playing with AI? -goes to look for a bomb shelter- lol

Quote
Today, it recognizes handwriting; tomorrow, it may vastly improve the military’s surveillance and targeting efforts.
A computer program, funded in large part by the U.S. military, has displayed the ability to learn and generate new ideas as quickly and accurately as can a human. While the scope of the research was limited to understanding handwritten characters, the breakthrough could have big consequences for military’s ability to collect, analyze and act on image data, according to the researchers and military scientists. That, in turn, could lead to far more capable drones, far faster intelligence collection, and far swifter targeting through artificial intelligence.

Ya unfortunately I have to agree. They do tend to have more funding and more scientists of all sorts available then most companies. Many of our advances have come from military applications.

But on a more serious note I also have alot of misgivings about the military getting their paws into the field. When i had my website going under its own domain name in 2000-2005 I had analytics of my website visitors and guess who some of the main visitors were. The military. The reason why I remember that is because at the time I was shocked that the military would actually look at my little old website. So I can't say I am super surprised.

Any technology, machine or invention that could possibly have military or Government applications, no matter how mundane or seemingly harmless, can and often IS seized or taken by the military or said Government for their own use.

It will then become their property and you will no doubt have to sign a non-disclosure and non-compete agreement for some unknown time in the future.

Or, you might just get a visit during the night by those nice men in their black suits and black SUV's and taken to some remote location (if you're lucky)...the other choice is, you just disappear, never to be seen from nor heard from again.

We're from the Government and we're here to help.

Don't look back...just run like hell!!
 ;)

Well openAI is starting out with only 1 billion and the usa is going to toss 12 billion at AI. It almost seems like a game of one upmanship.  Terminator here we come lol.
