A Dreaming Community
« on: March 08, 2015, 10:48:44 pm »
I honestly do not know how to properly begin this thread, but I do know that I have a good idea and believe I should present it to you all.
To get to the point, I would like to suggest we start up on a joint, project, with which we would popularize this forum and bring fresh faces to it.

I do realize the few active fellows around here have been members for at least 5 years longer then myself and that they probably have attempted to expand the community before, but I believe that the real success in life lies in our persistence (as well as desire, will and motivation).

Most of you might say that we don't need random members and a pointless waste of traffic - but you never know what kind of people you might stumble upon. There will always be trolls but also extraordinary people who with combined ideas make a genius.
There have been many cool and deep discussions on this forum as well as a good deal of useful references and personal experiences. Not to mention that the folks I have met here are by far the most welcoming community I have come across in my life of surfing. So why not meet some new friends?

Taking it from a marketing aspect, the larges concentrations of people and most active communities are those with the most useful references, tutorials, lively discussions as well as help sections. This is why DreamInCode, CppReference.com and StackOverflow go through insane amounts of traffic. So, logically if one wants to have a more active website he must make it useful.

I suppose the best way we could achieve this is not by sacrificing our personal projects in order to help others, yet simply spend more time explaining our ideas, projects and experiences in order to prove useful to others around us.

To quote Arnold Schwarzerneger and his 6th Rule Of Success:

"Always give back." - As simple as that.

We should always give something back, back to the world which despite it's cruelty has given us everything we have in our lives. The more you give to the world and it's people, the more it rewards you - one way or another.

So let's be one of those people, one of those communities who people will one day look up to and thank them for easing their troubles - whether they are programming issues, medical problems, social loneliness or whatever else may stand on their way in life.

P.S. Aside from all of the epicness, the only reason for posting this was a sudden feel of need to help others and also to suggest a tutorials section or something similar. Let me know what you think of this :) I am already preparing tutorials for C++ and Advanced Home Automation.

I always really like getting things done.     I wonder if there could be some list of links directly the code with an explanation on each project.   That would be cool,  but I know you can get that anywhere on the net if you look around,  but that doesnt mean we couldnt make a better repository than them,  about computer vision (thats mostly what im doing,  and that comes down to corner detectors, edge detectors, different kinds of filters)  but also word predictors,  and all sorts of memory systems.

This isnt my page tho,  so its not up to me.

It's not your page, nor mine - yet OURS. We along with our projects and ideas create the community and shape the site, so why not be a sort of authority in A.I. and intelligence programming?

It's not about profit or expansion - it's about joining to create a more powerful and better future for humanity. A small step today may one day represent a giant leap. So why not make that step - right here, right now, all of us...

Nice sentiments Ultron :)

I would support anything that might get us more visitors.

We have the article section, if anyone wants to write articles. I write some, others I commission.

Articles like this are doing well : http://aidreams.co.uk/forum/index.php?page=Artificial_Intelligence_in_Everyday_Life

10,000+ views and over 100 shares on social media.

We are a bit of a niche area really, always have been. We are doing well in the Google search rankings now, helped by being around for nearly ten years now.

I've always said that it is the members that make the site what it is. :)

I suppose it might be interesting to have teams - one may be a reporter team, the others may be tutors regarding A.I. theory and also hardware, software engineering. The latter would also write tutorials and help others with projects.

I realize there is not that much of us programmers here - I only know that Fred has experience with PHP, Moony has some C/C++, C# knowledge, the Vermin is a graphic card murderer and I myself have some Arduino experience and C++ knowledge. Just saying what I know - I realize you guys might be familiar with more languages, but the point is there is not that much of us with heavy enough technical knowledge, but when one starts the others will follow.

You could also see that StackOverflow has loads of tutors attempting to help (some very smart and some very aggressive folks) but they have these achievements, medals etc. This may not be as feasible on a forum board, but something is - check out DreamInCode or DaniWeb. Also TheNewBoston. But we could fill in where they can't - artificial intelligence (hardware and software). Maybe one day we could provide online training courses for A.I. :P

I don't really know, but I do think an intelligent and polite community such as this one should grow - cautiously, nonetheless. We don't want to become Stack Exchange. I just know that I will start prepping some tutorials as soon as I finish some experiments and testing theories. Also have a lot of duties at the moment but the time will come.

Thank you Ultron  :)

Rest assured I will endeavour to better myself and strive for my ultimate goal in life, even though I will probably never reach it. As Data says "The effort yields it's own rewards".

Now we just all have to work out what exactly our "ultimate goal" is and focus on it.

To dream the impossible dream.

Nice one Data! Never saw that one before! It did look a bit dated but with films, who knows...
