CHAT-L engine released for sandboxing
« on: January 12, 2010, 02:11:15 am »
AR has released a CHAT-L engine (no source) which allows you to write CHAT-L scripts and try them out. Includes a lot of chat-l script and data files, just not Suzette's identity scripts.  (3rd paragraph on main chatl documentation wiki-

Bruce I can finally get my hands on your great work. But is there an API to access the chat engine? I would prefer something in the form of .NET dll

sorry. No API. they are providing a sandbox fo.r people so its a stand-alone app. Maybe someday if they open source the whole engine then an api can exist and it can be used commercially

Avatar Reality is going to publish a DLL together with a general bot development platform for Blue Mars. Of course we hope you'll like Blue Mars as an environment to make your bot come alive and do more than just chat. But in any case you should be able to just use the DLL with .NET for a chat-bot. We are calling it from Java ourselves.

Very interesting, I would like to play around with that myself.  And welcome to the site Mark.

Everything is ready. What remains to be resolved are mainly organizational issues. Unfortunately, the A.I. framework comes last in priority of getting the Blue Mars platform ready, so it has been hard to make any commitments for a timeline. I hope soon we're going to put out a first beta-release. But whether 'soon' will turn out to be a few weeks or a few months is impossible to say at this time.

I'll post a notification here when it's time.

Yesterday I was given the green light for a beta-release on March 1st.

It will include support for Bruce's CHAT-L chat-bots as well as AIML based chat-bots. And a host of other interesting and useful  bot behaviors.

Stay tuned...

Well, it took a little longer but the new (beta) release of Blue Mars for developers is finally out. And this time it includes the bot-development platform that should make it very easy for programmers to create their own independent, interactive avatars. Which happened to be called 'Iams'.

As such it also includes Bruce's CHAT-L sandbox. There's an example project how to use it to create a chat-bot within Blue Mars, but since the sandbox is in a DLL it can also be used independently.

More information about the platform can be found in these two links:
http://ai.bluemars.com/wiki/
http://ai.bluemars.com/forum

I'm wondering if I should post a more general introduction and announcement elsewhere. Hopefully this project will inspire and facilitate many people to try out their new A.I. ideas.

You could do if you like.  Also there is the option of writing up an article so we can publish that here.  Articles can be a little more decorative with screen shots.  I would link to it initially from the news banner up the top of the forum, it would also appear in the article section and I can announce it in the forum.

I'll definitely give that serious consideration, it would be a great way to bring it to attention to some prime target audience.

P.S. Bruce brought to my attention that the Wiki was not accessible. Our sys-admin has assured me that should be fixed now.
