New Chat Bot
« on: December 03, 2008, 07:35:05 pm »
I came across this one today while doing some AI research. It is about 50 megs and
does require one to have .NET Framework 3.0 installed.

The program checks to see if your system meets the necessary requirements and
will even prompt you to download the NET 3.0 in case you don't have it on your system.

The software claims to learn from each sentence and over time will take on a lot of the user's
personality.

Check out the vid or get it here:http://www.taosplaza.com/content/view/23429/269/

Download link/text is just below the video window.

Appreciate any thoughts....

Looks interesting Art. Not really got time for chat bots at moment but have saved the site to maybe look into it more at a future date.

Good find :)

First impression is it seems a little basic compared to UltralHal.  It could do with an option to select the voice being used because I have a much better quality voice I normally use.  Also it would be nice to change the character.  For free though it is pretty good really, I didn't expect to ever see a desktop chatbot using Haptek again.

Another point of interest is that it appears to be a hybrid of AIML and whatever conversational database/system it has installed.  I have a test question to find AIML bots - ask "What is a fish" - if you get A cold-blooded vertebrate who lives in the ocean or fresh water, then it's an AIML bot.  But this also has a learning chat system that might be similar to UltraHal at a guess.  I have been wondering if someone would try something like that, seems a few programmers are now using AIML alongside other NLP methods - I think either Guile3D or MikMoth (VHuman Forum) are doing something similar.  I have for a while thought it would be good to use AIML as just one part of a chatbot because then you can get the best of both worlds, ie parroted replies (which can be useful) but also learned/flexible responses.

So yes, interesting...

Tremendous! an ultrahal new! But my ultrahal, is superb also, the only one bores my vista refuses it, for lack of version. Then I take the risk of making download of ' Nirosha ', on my vista, if really it uses haptek, me also can the using for my job, and it will be my dictionary, from memory. oooh that I am happy! to be you TREMENDOUS 'art ', and thanks for address also.  :)

Claude, glad you like it and you're certainly welcome!

Freddy, et. al. - I viewed some of the various files and
likewise found it to be AIML formatted script.

The same thought came to me that perhaps this is finally
a hybrid that allows for a learning AIML bot.

I need to play with it some more before passing judgement.

A few points of agreement, TTS selection is really needed
and the ability to select differents haps would be nice.

Will keep us posted.

Hi everyone! Now away from bots and Haptek, but wanted to test Nirosha (just a little bit) today.

Not tried all the AIML files of the folder but most of them were made by A.L.I.C.E. (it's written in the headers) and similar to those of my Pandorabots.

If you edit \bots\DEFAULT.bot you have the properties of the bot. You can see that her President is not Bush or Obama but Mahinda Rajapakse.

Afraid she's totally unable to learn the name of the President of the USA. After trying to teach her with different ways, always the same answer:

- Who is the President of the USA?
- Mahinda Rajapakse.

Wondering if she really learn something by herself: can't find any change in the folders, at the end of the session. Very strange... Must test her "intelligence" again. ;)

About the interface, some interesting infos with regedit, like: Nirosha.htr and NiroshaBack.jpg ("Back", lol, like with Hal) are in \Program Files\Haptek\player\data\standard\

You can have the Haptek character and the background you want, if you give them the same names above. Like with the lovely UltraHal 5.0 demo version...

No problem with the TTS voice: you can normally change it in the Haptek SAPI Config.

You know what? For me, this bot is GREAT! I don't need a sophisticated bot like Hal (despite my mistake: I purchased it, lol!) It's the LOCAL Haptek/Alicebot I was unable to create. All my bots are connected to the computers of Pandorabots/ALICE, in Oakland, CA. Not a problem, even from Europe (I've a broadband connection, it works fine) but Im an independent guy. Now my Pandorabots belong to everybody in the world and Nirosha is for me, just for me. ;D

Just a negative point: how to use JavaScript here? The HTML page of a Pandorabot allows many interesting experimentations.

Thanks a lot, Art. Very good find. 8)

GT40,

You're certainly welcome and I'm glad you are able to make some use of it.

Being quite skeptical as to why the program needed to access the Internet,
I denied it. It wouldn't run.

After digging through the files and realizing that most of them were of the
AIML or Pandora format, I then looked at the Nirosha.exe.config file and
noticed there were a few lines that looked a bit odd. About 22-23 lines down
it had the name of the author as Secret Name and Secret Password, so I
substituted my own name and made a password and saved the file.

Bingo, the program now works fine with the exception of the alleged learning
from conversations ability. Being a bot of this type, I believe that the only
learning would be from the botmaster inputting the data into the appropriate
sections. I saw no other provision for the program to store or write updated
conversational logs, data files or topical memory files.

After having some conversations with another friend, we have pretty much
determined that Nirosha only needed to connect in order to "register" or activate
the program. Other than that, it appears quite safe.

Would like to hear follow up reports from this bot as users and time permit.

Thanks!

In the Default Bot file,
You can replace the name of Mahinda Rajapakse with George W. Bush and
the bot will use George W. Bush when asked "Who is the President?"

I've tried the Haptek SAPI Setup and still am not able to change the default
voice of Niosha. I also tried the Control Panel>Speech>TTS with no results.

One can also do a drag of an .htr character and drop it into the Haptek window
to change characters.

Interesting bot.

I never thought of looking in the progam files to see if there was any AIML - I don't think I would be a very good hacker!

I was wondering if we could invite the person who made it to the forum and maybe get a bit more background, who know's they might like to set up base here for a while and take on ideas for improvements.  It might help answer the question of why the bot is not appearing to learn anything too.

Good idea, Freddy: interesting to dig further with the author. :)

About TTS voices, Art, I've used the "normal" HapSAPISetup.exe of the Haptek folder (I've another one in PeoplePutty). But, as we do with the Haptek player, unable to drag & drop any Haptek element in Nirosha's window (same thing in the Haptek window of an HTML page, and in Hal's window). But changing the .htr character and the background is easy.

Yes, that bot is just a local Alicebot. For me, the big advantage is the fact it does the same job than a Pandorabot, without requiring any connection (except when registering). To be totally sure, I've disconnected my PC from the internet and all was normally running, as before.  But of course, it's a private bot, like Hal.

I remember the great KnyteTrypper, saying (or something like that) that an AIML bot is a self-learning bot, if we consider that his/her botmaster is a part of his/her intelligence. After reading the logs of Pandorabots, he can improve and adapt the answers (sometimes, I even wrote specific answers for specific chatters, lol). Self-learning or not, I like Nirosha very much. :)

Of course, nothing to compare to UltraHal. I must humbly admit that, if I prefer my Pandorabots to Hal, it's just because I understand what I'm doing when I teach them with AIML language. I rarely talk to my bots and prefer to try new things on them. But experimenting with Hal requires a not-too-bad-level knowledge of Visual Basic and VBScript. UltraHal is a great useful and entertaining program. And I'm a poor (and lazy) programmer. :(

Thank again, Art. I hoped I was definitely retired in Second Life. Because of you, afraid to be back in AI and Haptek worlds, at least for a while. ;D

Hi Claude! Maybe you could try to only reinstall Framework 3.0. Here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=10CC340B-F857-4A14-83F5-25634C3BF043&displaylang=en

Then relaunch Nirosha.exe (the file you have downloaded): your Framework 3.0 is detected and the program is installed again. Just an idea...

Nirosha is very interesting for Froggies/Frenchies like us: it can become a totally French bot with the French AIML sets. Or a German or Italian bot. I have a French Pandorabot using those files: they need to be seriously improved but they exist, many thanks to their authors.

Hal can only understand and speak English. Of course, I know, Hal is much more intelligent. 8)
