Fiona, the community for the creation of an artificial mind
« on: September 24, 2012, 06:34:46 pm »
Hi everybody!

I'm part of Adele Robots team (robotics startup) and we are working on Fiona, a project related to avatars, chatbots, artificial intelligence and creativity.  Maybe some of you already know a bit about it.

I notice there lot of great topics and members with great knowledge about this field that will probably be interested in knowing about this project and that's why we are sharing it in Ai Dreams.  ;)

Fiona stands for Framework for Interactive-services Over Natural-conversational Agents and it's a global on line platform to create Intelligent and Interactive Virtual Avatars with the final goal to create an artificial mind.

You know the idea of an artificial mind is in fact several centuries old. Since mid 50's when the term Artificial Intelligence was created, there has been a lot of work done, but the task is really complex, and no one has really succeeded.

Currently the field is so huge, with lots of topics and different approaches involved that there are lots of small, and not so small, research groups in the world doing from time to time, significant progress. The point is that the topics are currently so scattered and they are so much specific, that it is difficult, and costly, putting all together to have something useful to market.

Here is where we came up with the idea of creating a platform that enables using different pieces of intelligence, developed by anyone, to model behaviors useful for people willing to pay for that, while converting the platform in an accelerator to transfer research to the market, instantly.

You can find more information at Fiona's website and Chrome Web Store.

Let me know your thoughts, ideas... about the project! Let's spark together!  :)

Thanks!

Hi Freddy,

Some Chrome apps are hosted on line like regular websites. It's some kind of bookmark. Right now Fiona Chrome app only directs you to Fiona's website, but when the platform is finally launched, we intend to direct the user to a login page. However, if someday Chrome provides additional functionality that we find interesting for Fiona, we will consider adding it to the platform.  ;)

We've just add some new features and sparks to Fiona, like Rebecca AIML and we are working to add more free sparks to the platform. There is a guide here, just in case someone want to create a spark and then upload it and share it or sell it in Fiona! ::)

So... people, could you be able to create a spark and share it in Fiona?

We have some default sparks that we give for free, like a face tracker, an open source TTS, 3D character...  but we love to hear new ideas!

Sounds nice but some people either do not have, use or believe in credit cards or simply do not like posting their card information online whether buying something or not. Maybe slight paranoid is a good thing after all we do not know you and you do not know us. Please do not take offense as I'm merely sharing some concerns.

Perhaps you could enlighten us a bit more regarding what's involved.

If you had clicked on the GREEN Join to Participate button at top right, you would have been taken to a page
asking for your name, email, credit card info., etc.

Ya gotta pay to play...or so it appears.

Its true, it would be easier to get blood out of a stone than it would be to get money out of us lot here  ;D

I like the website though, as a bit of a webby myself I can see a lot of work has gone into it. I particularly like the artwork.  O0

The reason may very well be in case one wishes to purchase a particular "Spark" or brain add-on.
Don't know for sure...'tis only a guess.

I just noticed something about the website that I think the developer should do something about.

On the sign up page the site is asking for “Credit card number” and “Expiration date” but there is no padlock being shown in my browser (IE9).

Now forgive me, but no one should ever enter card details into a page that doesn’t have a padlock showing. Isn’t that basic security protocol?
