Hello everyone

I'm new here and new to AI development. I'm starting a new AI Project and could definitely use any advise I can get!
This project is to create a new Bot personality that hasn't really been seen much on the web.

I have scoured the web and one thing is for sure it has been difficult to decide which is the right engine to start with since I dont want to end up having to change over in mid-stream I'm trying to pick the Right Engine.. the First time.

I want a BOT that I can host on my site and includes all the source so that definitely narrowed the picks to only a few. So far it seems I've only found 1 that has a decent backend system as far as training purposes go.. which is Program-O that is based off of the Alicebot Program but has been modified. I have installed the current version and backend is pretty nice but I'm wanting to expand and improve on it.

Ideally, I want a backend system that would allow multiple users to log-in to assist in the training of the bot.
Also, I'm looking for anyone that might be interested in working with me on the project. I have programmers to help me but they are not experts in AIML which is obviously what I need most.

The last thing is.. if Anyone has any suggestions or recommendations as to a better program.. I'm ALL Ears!

Hi Jon and welcome to Ai Dreams.

Program O is a good choice because it is new and being developed.  I imagine it would be a good base to expand from.  If your programmers know PHP well enough then it would seem the most suitable option at the moment if you choose to work with AIML bots.

If you are looking for a top notch AIML programmer you could try approaching SquareBear.  He is one of the best or even the best AIML coder out there.  He does visit here sometimes, but his more usual haunt is over on the AI Nexus Forum so you will probably find him there.

Another platform to consider is the new CHAT-L Engine.  Take a look at these posts to get an idea of what all that is about :

I just wanted to ask one other question...  AIML is not a requirement of mine.. It just seemed to be one of few choices I could find. Can you recommend any other Bots out there that I can host on my server.. that run Mysql and have some type of backend system for development? Based on the searches I've done.. I can't seem to find much of anything out there that was noteworthy.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

To be honest I can't really think of anything else noteworthy.  Like I said you might want to hang on for CHAT-L to be more accessible as it is really one of the best chatters we have come across.

Hi Jonathan,

While I do know AIML pretty much inside out, I know next to nothing about the interpreters that do the donkey work behind the scenes. Most of my AIML work is designed for Program Z (over at www.pandorabots.com) rather than Program O and I believe that certain tags like <eval> and <learn> are not implemented in Program O.

I don't believe I will be able to help with the actual interpreter coding but if I can help you with any AIML, please let me know. I am always happy to help a fellow botmaster.
