Yobot - buggage handling robot
18 August 2011, 10:38 am

Robots are usually targeted towards dangerous, dirty and dull tasks, this one definitely focuses on the dull part. It is a converted ABB industrial robot named Yobot that handles the baggages on the futuristic Yotel line of hotels. A visitor places his or her bag in the special tray and the robotic arm puts it in a specific drawer. Despite the style and the name, Yotel and Yobot have nothing to do with Japan. They are parts of the YO! group of companies founded by British entrepreneur Simon Woodroffe and the Yotels are in London, New York and Amsterdam. The robotic arm apart from its obvious use as a commodity also serves as a decorative element, showcased as a piece of modern art it underlines the futurism of the brand.
