Elon Musk claims artificial intelligence will treat humans like 'labradors'
25 March 2015, 12:00 am

Robots will use humans as pets once they achieve a subset of artificial intelligence known as 'superintelligence'. This is according to SpaceX-founder Elon Musk who claims that when computers become smarter than people, they will treat them like 'pet Labradors'.

Unless they misquoted and he said "pet lab rats". It seems Elon Musk has given up rocket science to pursue a carreer as fortuneteller.

Hey, that looks like my hero, Neil deGrasse Tyson.
(Although I disagree, Pluto's not a planet.)

Although I don't know why 8pla.net inserted Neil's photo as the subject was AI, some research will show the following:

Neil deGrasse Tyson (/ˈniːəl dəˈɡræs ˈtaɪsən/; born October 5, 1958) is an American astrophysicist, cosmologist, author, and science communicator. Since 1996, he has been the Frederick P. Rose Director of the Hayden Planetarium at the Rose Center for Earth and Space in New York City.

That's correct Squarebear,

Shortly after Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson announced Pluto was not a planet...  8pla.net was launched!

So, while I may disagree with Neil on Pluto, I am still a huge fan of his... And I really enjoy watching him on TV.

I posted a copy of this error because it was in my favor.

Like playing the game Monopoly...

EDIT:   Tyler did not make an error.  After reading this in the  article.  "His [Elon Musk] comments were made in a recent interview with scientist Neil deGrasse Tyson, who added that computers could choose to breed docile humans and eradicate the violent ones."  I realized that image is the correct one.  Therefore, we can now add Neil deGrasse Tyson to the list of Bill Gates, Elon Musk and Stephen Hawking all saying A.I. poses a threat.

OK cool...so the Earth really IS Flat and the really IS such thing as Global Whining Warming and our governments would NEVER spy on it's people!! Good to know!

Side note: I've seen MANY dogs and cats treated far better than a lot of people.
All you can hope for is a kind, understanding robot master who will provide you a nice cushioned shock collar, a bowl or two of some porridge looking, semi-nutritious glop and a moderately clean blanket on the floor upon which to sleep. Not too bad! An occasional back scratch or pat on the head might be a nice gesture.
Just don't pee on the floor...they Hate that! :-\

You surprise me, Art. Global warming is acknowledged by science from clear measurable evidence, as plain as holding a ruler to a dike or a thermometer to the average temperatures over the past 5 years. To deny its existence at this point is like saying you don't believe in rainfall.
Robots on the other hand, have yet to be witnessed "treating" anyone in any other way than was pre-programmed or a random malfunction.

The supposed Climate Change is due to the Cyclic nature of Earth's climate. It is and has been much like a huge sine wave with peaks and valleys that have happened over thousands upon thousands of years.

We aren't going to fix it or stop it, just because we don't like the position of the current sine wave. It's almost like some people claiming the Earth's tilt is too far or it's spinning too fast.

So, let's remember, in the Summer it gets Hot...in the Winter, it gets Cold.

Yeah, I also heard some people in the store this year complaining about the snow and how cold it was outside.
OK...It's called WINTER up here for good reason!
Choices:
Stay inside and turn up the thermostat or throw another log on the fire.
Sell your house and move to a warmer state or climate closer to the equator.
Add some insulation to your house's attic and walls, buy insulated clothing, etc.

Complain to the government that something should be done about these COLD Winters!!

I think its whining because of magnet motors, hydrogen fuel and pumpless refridgerators just sitting there and they dont want to use them.   It pisses me off,   when I start getting into my robot body, maybe ill think of some alternative power source to get him running.

Your right art, I dont treat my cat like a slave, and she loves me more because of it.

But I guess this chain of thought->
At first robots are the slaves.
Then I guess it depends if it turns around on us.

But I guess why it possibly wouldnt happen is if we could come up with a machine thats smarter than us, we were smart enough to invent it, so in a way we would always be superior to it.  It would be unadaptive in a way, although seemingly high performance.

Sorta like when you see some memory genius, but it doesnt bother your ego, because you think your a more slower adaptive intelligence.  or some bullshit like that.  heheheheh

I know about the sine wave phenomenon. So do the scientists. Greater correlations have been found with industrial activity, so regardless whether we caused it, if we can influence it and save a number of animal species from extinction, we should. Even more so if we can do something about the rising water levels that are eager to flood half my country. But sure, go ahead, laugh it up.
I don't know where you live but down in the Netherlands we have had nothing but unusually warm winters, flowers blooming in the wrong seasons, etc. The weather reports mention "global warming" as casually as "low pressure front".

Don,

I certainly wasn't poking fun at you but rather the pious "officials" in our government(s) who always think they can legislate our lives because they know what's best for us!

Truth is, our government along with other countries have been trying to control the weather for a vast number of years.

Back in the early part of the 20th century, cloud seeding, explosives, high altitude testing, HAARP Gun experiments, Solar arrays and practically any other methodology has been employed in an attempt to gain control of the weather.

Yes, I do absolutely feel badly for the state of the planet, deforestation of the jungles and rainforests, lack of adequate fresh water and food distribution in many parts of our world, pollution, over fishing, and so many other maladies from which we are plagued, but unless there is a real scientific approach and worldwide proof, then all the shouting and protesting is BS and conjecture. We can't slap a label on it and call it fixed.

What I'm saying is that this "problem" is on a very grand scale and there may NOT necessarily be a fix for it. It may simply have to go through it's cycle. There was an ice age eons ago and so on and so on. If we caused it, then we should fix it, or at least try. It's almost like trying to stop a volcano from erupting. It's going to happen.
In the world of AI, it's the thought that counts!

U.N. Official Reveals Real Reason Behind Global Warming Scare
By ElmerB on February 11, 2015 in News, Opinion, Paris 2015

Investors.com

Economic Systems: The alarmists keep telling us their concern about global warming is all about man’s stewardship of the environment. But we know that’s not true. A United Nations official has now confirmed this.

At a news conference last week in Brussels, Christiana Figueres, executive secretary of U.N.’s Framework Convention on Climate Change, admitted that the goal of environmental activists is not to save the world from ecological calamity but to destroy capitalism.

“This is the first time in the history of mankind that we are setting ourselves the task of intentionally, within a defined period of time, to change the economic development model that has been reigning for at least 150 years, since the Industrial Revolution,” she said.

Referring to a new international treaty environmentalists hope will be adopted at the Paris climate change conference later this year, she added: “This is probably the most difficult task we have ever given ourselves, which is to intentionally transform the economic development model for the first time in human history.”
